SOURCE: where is the fuel pump in a 3.4 2000 chevy impala?

Please don't forget to rate!!!!

Pump is in the tank and here is the procedures to do the job:

Fuel Pump Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Relieve the fuel system fuel pressure.
  2. Drain the fuel tank from the filler neck as much as possible.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Loosen the clamp and remove the filler hose from the fuel tank.
  5. Disconnect the fuel and EVAP quick-connect fittings at the fuel tank.
  6. Remove the exhaust pipe hangers and allow the exhaust system to drop slightly.
  7. Separate the EVAP fresh air line at the splice.
  8. Remove the fuel tank shield.
  9. Support the fuel tank with a suitable jack.
  10. Remove the two bolts securing the fuel tank straps.
  11. Lower the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  12. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump assembly.
  13. Clean the fuel pipe connections with compressed air to prevent contamination during removal.
  14. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly.
  15. Remove the fuel sender retaining ring and remove the fuel sender assembly. The modular fuel sender assembly will spring-up when the snap ring is removed.
To Install:
CAUTION
Be careful not to fold or twist the fuel inlet strainer when installing the fuel sender assembly, this will restrict fuel flow. Also, make sure the float arm is able to move freely.
  1. Place a new fuel sender assembly seal on the tank and install the fuel sender assembly.
  2. Holding the fuel sender in place and install the retaining ring.
  3. Connect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly.
  4. Connect the electrical connectors.
  5. Place the fuel tank on a suitable jack and raise it in position under the vehicle.
  6. Install the fuel tank strap bolts. Tighten the bolts to 35 lb ft (48 Nm).
  7. Install the fuel tank shield.
  8. Connect the fuel and EVAP quick-connect fittings at the fuel tank.
  9. Connect the EVAP fresh air hose at the splice.
  10. Install the fuel tank filler hose to the fuel tank.
  11. Raise the exhaust and install the exhaust pipe hangers.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Add fuel and install the fuel filler pipe cap.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
  15. Perform the following to pressurize the fuel system;
    • Turn the ignition ON, for 2 seconds.
    • Turn the ignition OFF, for 10 seconds.
    • Turn the ignition ON.
  16. Inspect the fuel system fuel leaks.

Changed fuel pump in 2004 chevy impala now fuel gauge is reading E and car won't start

Could it actually be empty? Did you forget to connect the electrical sending unit plug to the pump, under the car? Easy way to tell, remove the fuel line hose at the intake manifold, put it in to a container, try starting the car..if no fuel comes out, your pump is not working or tank is empty.

Why does the gas guage not register how much gas is in the tank of our 2001 Chevy Impala?

This could be due to a faulty fuel sensor in the fuel tank try draining the fuel tank and replacing the sensor.

I have a 2004 Chevy Impala it has poer at the fuel pump fuse and fuse looks good but no power at fuel pump. is there a fuel pump relay switch or what could it be?

First make a set of jumper wires and jump the pump from the battery and see if it works. If it runs its the relay or the ECU,or the ignition switch.
Remove the relay and test it for B+. Then jump the terminals and see if the pump runs. If pump runs and you got B+ up to this point its the relay.
However,if no B+ at the relay means ECU not giving relay the turn on signal..
While wearing a ground wrist strap check out ECU Grounds and B+ wires for continuity from Ignition switch and other areas of interest (use shop manual)
either the switch is not telling ecu to send message to relay to turn on the pump or someone in this circuit has gone bad.
