When replacing the timing belt on a 1994 ford escort, on the crankshaft pully. do i line up the arrow @ 12 o'clock or the keyway

after you remove the timing belt cover you will find a notch on the cam gear that lines up with a dot on the backing plate and also on the crank after the pully is removed the keyway will be at 12'oclock after the engine is set in time use a 8mm wrench and turn counterclock wise use a 1/8 drill bit to lock the tensioner in place now remove old belt and replace

Hi i need to know 2001 ford taurus top dead centre mark on crank pully

  • Due to the lack of timing marks you need to remove the center bolt from the damper on the crankshaft and take a flashlight or a laser pointer and look at the keyway for the damper and point the keyway to 12 O'Clock and that is Top Dead Center.

Where should timing mark on camshaft be on 1999 ford escort single overhead

Support the engine with the floor jack and remove the right hand side motor mount and bracket. Raise the engine slightly and remove the timing belt cover and the crankshaft pulley bolt and the pulley. Turn the engine clockwise until the crankshaft timing marks are lined up. There is a triangular mark on the crankshaft and a plate with a mark at 12 o'clock on the block. The camshaft has a triangular mark on the sprocket and a dot on the block at 12 o'clock that must line up.

Supertine belt diagram Ford Escort ZX2 1999 Old brken off now replacing it with new but no picture or diagram showing how its to be installed properly.

If timing belt broke when the engine was running then a belt wont fix your problem as when the belt brakes the valves stop straight away and the crankshaft will still turn over at least 4to6 times adn in that time could AND would bend a couple of valves at least.if
not a lot more problems BUT if you still go ahead with fitting the belt then all the casings are marked to fit the belt and the keyway in crankshaft is always at 12 oclock to start with.. Ron

I need to know how to time a 1989 ford escort lx 1.9liter

ON the crankshaft, line the keyway at 12 0'clock. There should be a pointer on the crank gear it lines up to the slash mark on the oil pump. On the camshaft line the hole in the gear with the pointer to the the dimple mark on the cylinder head at the 12 0'clock position.

Where are the marks for the timing belt on 94 Ford escort

The mark for the crankshaft is in two places one on the damper it will correspon with the timing guage on the front belt cover. When you have the damper and cover off you will notice a notch on the oil pump housing it should line up with the keyway on the crankshaft. The camshaft has dot on the outside ring of the cam gear there is a notch on the rear timing cover that it lines up with basically 12 o'clock.

not sure of what make or model this is ,but if i had car in front of me i would soon sort it ,yes a lot of vehicles use a 8mm hole which lines up with a hole behind for locking wheels in place when fitting the timing belt ,if not sure check keyway and it should point to top of engine,but whatever you do always turn engine 360 degrees by hand before trying to start engine when changing or touching timing belt.Watch a ford engine as they dont have keyways and if bolts not hammered up tight then gearwheels turn when you rev engine ,trust me one piston and 5 valves i broke on one .

Instruction on how to put timing belt on a 1991 ford escort

First put the car up on jackstands, remove the front left wheel. disconnect battery, take the drive belt off, remove the drive belt tensioner, put a floor jack under the engine with a block of wood or somthing to support it, remove the motor mount by taking the 3 bolts off of the body and the bolt out of the center of the mount. Remove the crankshaft pulley, this may require a pry bar. Take the bolts out of the front cover and remove it. Take the timing belt tensioner loose by loosening the 10mm bolt and rotating the tensioner with a hex key. remove the timing belt. I would also replace the tensioner while I was in there. Line the cam and crank up with the index marks, the cam has a pointer on the sprocket that lines up with a dimple behind the pulley. The crank has a keyway that lines up with a mark on the block. Install the timing belt and tension it making sure the marks do not move, then rotate the engine by hand 2 revolutions and make sure the marks line up again. After that reinstall everything in the order you removed it and fire it up. -Jared

Timing mark

Cam has a "V". Crank has a keyway. Both should be directly on top of the pullys toward the top of the engine. This is an interference engine. Do not force. After replacing the timing belt, turn the crank by ratchet (clockwise) two complete turns to assure. Should feel some resistence but not more than you can easily overcome. If it stops dead and you KNOW it's "just not right" you are 180 out and need to start over.
