Try opening the trunk and cleaning the water drain off out. there is a rubber strip that goes around the lip of the trunk that gets clogged with leaves and sticks and just trash.look at the rubber strip to see if clogged or torn. if it's torn you'll need to replace or repair it with some silicone sealent.around where that strip is, thats a drain for water to run off the car. try to clean and repair before you replace it but if you have to replace it, the rubber strip is not that expensive, maybe $30.00 for the rubber and it's easy to install.hope this helps!!

No owners manual. How do I get to the spare tire? Can't tell if I'm supposed to go through the floor in the back or under the car.

The spare tire in a 1996 Grand Cherokee is supposed to be bolted on the inside the rear trunk area, on the drivers side, not underneath the Jeep as you think. The only thing under there taking up all the space is the gas tank. If it's not in the back, then you don't have one. The jack and tire iron are located under the rear seats.

I have noticed that in really wet weather (moved to Vancouver recently), my 2002 Hyundai Accent GSI starts to smell bad (like wet carpet). Upon inspection, the back seats feel damp to touch and when I lift...

Check the trunk rubber for damage and/or improper mounting. There will ordinarily be drain holes in the area where the tail light assemblies mount to the back of the car. If they are plugged up, the water will have nowhere to go when it rains, and will seep through the gasket between the tail light housings and the body metal. If unable to find the problem, have someone soak the back of the car in the trunk / tail light area with a garden hose, and watch for water intrusion from inside the trunk with a flashlight (hopefully, the rear seat backs flip down so you can gain access to the trunk from inside the car). Good luck!

I get standing water on rear floorboards whenever I am driving in the rain

there is a leake in one of your rear tailights, check in your trunk as well below the spare tire and you will most likely find another pool of water, clean up both your floor board and the trunk area and then all i have done was sealed the tailight on the passanger side and it fixed my problem.

I have a 2002 Dodge Neon, 4 cyl, automatic. Water is leaking into the trunk and under back passenger seats. Is this only from tail lights as suggested online?

I would check the trunk seal first.

1. Thoroughly clean the seal and the surface it touches with windex.

2. Apply a semi thin layer of grease to the seal, you don't want alot just enough to transfer to the other surface when you close the trunk.

3. Close trunk completely and then reopen and examine the grease pattern on the surface it touches.

If there is a break or a messy spot (smear) in the pattern that is where the water might be leaking on from.

My 04 neon has a water leak which fills the spare tire hole in the trunk and the floor in the back seat?

Open the trunk and apply baby powder to the gasket, gently close the trunk lid with key in unlocked position.Open the trunk and look for bald spots in the trunk/hatch lid.Duplicate yje area on the gasket and shim the gasket with a piece of 3 M caulk strip. slam the lid an repeat the powder test until yo see no gaps. That should do it unless the gasket is TORN.

I have a 2005 Dodge neon that seems to retain water in trunk area where spare tire is located. why is this?

I can tell you why....because it does this in my stratus!!!!

The trunk lid hinges are letting water into your trunk. All the water pools up in and under the spare, the trunk carpet is wet.....more than likely the driver's side of the trunk....pull that trunk carpet back from where that trunk hinge is mounted to the body, reach under there and feel all the water dripping in!

The fix? Unbolt those hinges and put silicone sealant around those bolts and mounts.....that'll take care of that crummy leak.....DODGES!!!!!

Water in the trunk where the spare tire is...

It's most likely the weather stripping along the top of your trunk, where the hinges are. There is probably a bad contact, or missing the weather stripping.

pour a small amount of water down the back of the car, give it some time and then take a look inside maybe you will see where it's dripping from. if you can, fold your seats down and sit inside the car with a flashlight while someone else empties a glass of water approx. on your back window, roof of car etc.

Hope this helps :)
