Question about 1999 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

I am replacing a water pump on a 1999 dodge durango, 318 ci, 5.2 litre engine. i am already encountering problems, i started removing the water pump assembly, removed all the bolts, the whole things is loose. i did this in the rain. after i was done i noticed i have 2 different sized bolts, and completely forgot where the bolt go in what holes. next, how, with the assembly loose, do i get it out of the motor bay, still attached to the fan and fan clutch. i think might of got ahead of myself on the one. and once out of the motor bay, do i remove the pully from the water pump? any help would be greatly appreciated, i am writing from dillingham alaska, resources are limited to the do it yourself level. thank you.

Ur supposed to unscrew the fan at that big nut and remave the cooling fan shroud first then youll have all kinds of room. snug the pump back to the motor and break that nut loose. i always use an air hammer and chisel in the left of the top flat on the nuts, it starts it in the right direction and then un threads easy. you have to hold the pump pulley and turn that big *** nut. you can borrow tools from parts store for it if you dont have anything

First disconnectthe cable from negative terminal of the battery. drain the cooling system if the coolant is relatively new or in good condition, save it. remove the cooling fan and shroud. remove the drive belt and water pump pulley. loosen the clamps and detach the hoses from the water pump. if stuck try to twist to break seal. check hoses if bad replace. on v6 & v8 remove the water pump coolant return tube mounting bolt. Remove the bolts and detach the water pump from the engine. Note: the location of the various lengths and different types of bolts as you remove them. to ensure correct installation. on v8 models reach above the water pump with pilers to release the hose clamp on the bypass hose.clean the bolt & and the threaded hoses in the engine. compare the new pump with the old one make sure there identical. remove all traces of old gasket material from engine.
