With this being a gm car most of these have a sensor built into the key. If it doesnt click or anything maybe just the dash lights come on when turning it over then it could be theres a bad connection with this sensor or the key itself is going bad due to being worn. try spaying a lube of some sort into the key tumbler and see if that helps.

The most probable cause for this is a an intermittent problem with the Starter solenoid and/or starter.

When the car does not respond to turning the ignition key on can you hear a click from under the hood?

If you can that is the starter solenoid trying to turn on the starter motor. I would say the starter needs to be replaced.

If you cannot hear anything, then the solenoid ( which is just a relay) is probably bad.

I just replaced my startere on my F150, starter & solenoid come as a unit.... cost about $125.

Hopes this helps good luck Loringh

Key turns to "start" position. Nothing happens, key doesn't spring back to "run".

Sounds like the link between the lock cylinder and the switch is broke.

Fuel pump sometimes works and sometimes does not turn the key a couple of times and pump goes on

My 99 grand am also has this issue. I'm not sure if they are the same issues but in my gran am if you turn the key too fast from on then to start the fuel pump doesn't prime. Try turning the key on then start somewhat slowly. Hope this helps.

1996 buick century v6 3.1L all of sudden not wanting to start but after a couple mins of turning key to start, finally starts and then runs great. now problem only occuring at starting of vehicle. once...

It sounds to me like the fuel system is not getting primed during the initial start up. By cycling the key several times, the fuel pump has time to deliver enough fuel to start the engine. The inexpensive way to go at this point is to change the fuel filter. It is cheap and one of the first things to check. Hope this helps.

I have a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Sl. I have recently been having problems with getting it started. The first time it happened was this past summer. I though it was just the key (PASS KEY 2 SYSTEM)...

your tumbler possibly worn and keys are now not reading or both keys are worn down to where not working correctly ---also ignition switch can be failing

No turnover

There may be problem with the VTD module reading the proper code. You will want to make sure that the little diode in the key is clean, (that's the thing with the little metal on it) if not then there is a problem with the vehicle thieft deterent system. Most times, a lock smith can come to the vehicle and check the VTD system for about $65. That is a lot less than the dealers get. It might just need an ignition lock cylinder. Sorry for the bad news, there are three wires that wear out in the cylinder and the pcm can not read the key's. If you have a second key try that and if that works it's your first key that went bad and you can get a new key's cut. If your key's has a number and letter stamped on it then you have a VTD system. Good luck

Turn key, nothing happens

It could be the park/neutral switch, next time it doesn't start try wiggling the shifter in park while turning the key, or shift to neutral and see if that will work. if that doesn't change the problem I would replace the ignition switch.

Key is stuck in ignition.... not all the way in.... won't turn over ..... won't come out....what do you suggest....

i had the same problem on my car, but i drive a honda. Try pushing the key in, and turn it at the same time towards u. I did this once, and it worked.. after the key got stuck again a couple of days later. This second time i had to get the whole thing out (ignition switch). Took it apart, and changed the combination on the key. When this happens once, its most likely to happen again
