Question about Ford Focus

1 Answer

Last week I had an alternator changed on my ford focus, when I pull out of parking lot I had bigger problems than a battery light on when car was brought in. Turns out they accidently pushed axle in too far. Replaced it without problem and additional cost. Now a week later my whole power steering pump is shot and will cost 800.00 to fix. Car ran perfect up to the little light. Just wondering if they could of possibly damaged pump or that area also. Car is a 2005 ford focus with under 85000.00 miles. I baby this car and have even been comended for the good shape. What gives 1300.00 in car repairs for a car under 6 years has me loosing faith. help ! advise ???

I just replaced my alternator on my 2003 ford focus and the only way to get it out of the engine compartment was to put a jack between my drive shaft and power steering shaft to get the few millimeters of needed clearance to remove the old one and insert the new one. Answer is: They probably did the same thing and forced it too far apart, damaging the components.

Ford focus 2005 battery light stays on new alternator , battery only 6 months old

First, a bad battery doesn't turn the light on. Just A bad alternator or ECM. Start the car. put a volt meter on the + and - sides of the battery. If it reads 12 to 15 volts (closer to 15 for a new alternator). The alternator is good. And is charging. The problem is the wiring or the ECM. It can be bypassed to turn the light off. I just did it a week ago. Problem is , I don't have the wiring diagram for your car. Don't get a book from the parts store, it won't tell you. Go to alldata or Mitchell and purchase a manual. It's online and lasts a year. But they give you good electrical schematics...

My 1989 ford econoline e-150 (small v-8) won't run after charging battery

Well I was going to ask if you have checked the alternator output, but the part about the ignition switch makes me wonder if the switch is failing. It could be damaged internally and not up to the task of carrying voltage when everything is turned on.
I would still check alternator output at the alternator and at the battery.
You should have 14 volts at idle with all accessories off.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus. One week ago the battery light came on and stayed on for two days when the voltage drained and left me stranded on the side of the road. I took the alternator to a rebuild shop...

Sounds like the alternator is still not making the correct voltage to charge the fully. The battery light comes on when the alternator doesn't make enough voltage to charge it. Your alternator might still be charging, but not putting out required voltage. I would have your alternator & battery tested. Hope this helps you.

I have 2002 Ford Focus w/104,000 miles. The

sounds like your alternator isnt functioning correctly.
you can have this tested at a local garage, normally for free. when the engine is running, it should show around 14 amps on a multimeter. also check the battery is serviced. check the fluid levels and a full charge
