SOURCE: Headlight lamp switch wires

as there are a number of wires, and you dont want to short out something else.you shoul probably go to mitchell online and pay a small amount to get access to there repair info for your truck.you could also go to your library if you need to get it for free,it would take someone a lot of time to download this picture and info.if you have no headlights it could also be the combinsation switch behind the steering wheel, the dimmer switch, play with the dimmer switch a little to see if the lights come on, if so remove the plastic cover behind the steering wheel and remove teh two small scews that hold the switch on to replace it.

There is a fuse you may have more then one fuse box look under the hood & under the dash. Most of the time Chrysler will just put a number next to the fuses. Go to your owners manual & see what number is your head light fuse. If you still can't find the right fuse take your test light & check both side of each fuse if one side lights up & one side does not replace it with the same size fuse.

If they are going out then you may have a loose connection at the switch or a shorted switch or a loose wiring connector at the headlight

Headlights flash on and off on a 1996 dodge dakota

You've probably got a wire shorting out somewhere around the steering column or the headlight flash switch is broken, which can happen as they are only thin leaf switches and have been known to snap off. but I would think its the first place to look for a short.

The headlights doesn't turn on. already change bulbs.

Your headlight switch needs to be replaced. Here's the section from the maintenance manual.

Headlight Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1996 Dakota
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the steering column cover and remove the instrument panel bezel. Two screws are hidden behind the steering column cover.
  3. Remove the screws from the headlight switch bezel, pull the assembly out and disconnect the wiring.
  4. Remove the nut retaining the bezel to the bracket. Depress the spring button on the right side of the switch and remove the headlight switch knob and stem.
  5. Remove the spanner nut and remove the switch.
  6. The installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

I have a 1984 dodge 4x4 1/2 ton. the headlights dont work just the running lights work when i pull the light switch out. i bought new headlights nothing

some times when the dimmer switch on the floor goes bad the headlights will cut out. Try replacing the dimmer switch and the headlights should come back on. My 84 dodge had that exact problem.
