You pressure test the system, typically at 13 to 15 pounds, then get a mirror and a light and start inspecting everywhere.

Losing coolant with no visible leaks 2005 jeep liberty engine 3.7

Did you listen to the radiator too see if it gurgles when filling? When filling the gurgling tells you there are no air or coolant leaks in the engine much the same as an upside down soda bottle gurgles when turned upside down. Also look in the radiator too see if bubbles are coming from the bottom of the radiator while running at normal operating temperature with the cap off.? If you see bubbles coming from the bottom, you have a leaking head gasket. This can and will happen without the coolant leaking into oil, and without oil leaking into coolant. The gasket leaks right near the cylinder and sucks the coolant into the cylinder on the intake stroke, and blows it back into the radiator on compression stroke. This is why the coolant bubbles up from the bottom. The coolant that gets sucked in gets vaporized and comes out the exhaust. Loosing coolant ?? This is where it is going if no leaks under or around around the vehicle.Good luck I hope this solves your problem. Please post a solved comment on fixya, so I receive credit for the solve.

Tip

Small coolant leak

This is a little easy diy'er for the everyday joe.If you have noticed a small coolant leak coming from your motor area, not a pouring leak but more of a drip, and you don't feel like paying a repair bill of $400, then go to your local neighborhood parts store and purchase a bottle of radiator/coolant stop leak. The best brand I've found is called Bar's Leak, it actually seals up most small coolant leaks within the day.All you do is add this to the coolant in the radiator.I hope this tip helps!!!

Coolant nissan pulsar 1989

Quite often when replacing coolant in older vehicles new leaks start to show up. The newer technology in coolant makes it a really good cleaner, and when it I changed it would clean out any bit of rust scale exposing weak areas where new leaks can form. If the leak is coming from the front of the engine where the drive belts run, there's a good chance it is coming from the water pump.

Replaced thermostat on pontiac sunfire now there's smoke coming from coolant tank

Sounds like you have a leaking head gasket or damage to the engine from when it overheated.
A leaking head gasket can cause compression to leak into the cooling system and pull coolant into the cylinders which is burned out the exhaust. It does not have to leak into the oil.
A shop would check for exhaust gas in the cooling system and run a compression test on the cylinders.

Dodge 318 v8 coolant leak

It could be coming from the timing cover. On older 318 engines there is a water passage on each side of the timing cover between the pump and the block. If the timing cover decays it can allow coolant to leak into the timing cover, which usually goes into the crankcase.

2002 malibu runs hot.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head. This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor. The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help. This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

Im having a problem with my 2003 Chevy Malibu leaking coolant. What do I do? What do I check? I have no idea where its coming from. I can drive and when I park the car it starts to pour out coolant. I took...

actually it is not good idea to replace your coolant by water only you shoul full your coolant system 50/50 mixture coolant and water because coolant has uniqe smell and color so easier to identified leaks.
first check your oil condition and coolant reservior for any coolont oil mixture for figure out head gaskets condition if you have any oil coolant mixture in oil or coolant you have a blown head gaskets this will send you to mechanic if everthing looks clear then go front driver side bottom of radiator and open the drain **** (make sure car is cool and put container under because coolant is toxic and mess up your drive way )open reservior tab too and drain all the water close back drain **** probably your vehicle prefer dexcool(red color)
fill 3 qt dexcool then water or just buy ready mix run the engine with reservior tab open and check coolont level add more if necesery suquize collont hoses for air inside when engine start hit up close reservior tab. on passanger side front of the engine has a coolant drain plug open with number 8 wrench untill you see the coolant come out( bleed the system for air) make this several times turn on your heat too and bleed again and watch your upper and lover hoses for any visible leaks fallow small coolant lines like under throttle body check thermostat housing under throttle body on 3.4l engines check under radiator if your pressure cab dosen't look good get a new pressure cab .shut of the car and check for leaks once you find out where is leak from easy to fix it.
