Question about 1997 Cadillac DeVille

I have a problem with overheating aiready replaced water pump thermostadt waterpump belt and hoses. is tere a filling procedure i dont know about?

There is much written about this issue...One small hose between engine and that plugs up. There is an issue with the head bolts and the aluminum block, Usually cost prohibitive to fix. There is a test to see if exhaust fumes are getting into the cooling system because of head bolts....

  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
  • Splash shield

  • Water pump mounting nuts and tighten them to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm)
  • A/C compressor brace, if equipped, and tighten the nuts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm)
  • Thermostat housing
  • Radiator bypass hose assembly
  • Transaxle 10 pin connector
  • Engine vent hose
  • Upper radiator hose
  • Water pump belt
  • Battery and tray
  • Air cleaner assembly
  • Radiator upper front tube bolt
  • Radiator lower tube bolt
  • Lower heater hose
  • Splash shield
2. Fill the cooling system.
3. Start the engine and check for leaks.

How do you replace the water pump?


Hello, ramrodsc2 Removal Procedure 1. Drain the cooling system untilthe coolant is below the level of the water pump. 2. Remove the drive belt guard. 3.Loosenthe waterpump pulley bolts. 4. Remove the drive belt. 5. Remove the water pump pulleybolts and remove the water pump pulley. 6. Remove thewater pump bolts then Remove the water pump. 7. Remove the water pump gasket 8. Clean the water pumpmating surfaces pay particular attention to the cleaning process and make surethe surfaces are clean. Installation Procedure 1. Install the water pump gasket. 2. Install the water pump; tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inchlbs.). 3. Install the water pump pulley.Loosely install the mounting bolts. 4. Install the drive belt; this will help hold the pulley thentightening the pulley bolts. 5. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 inch lbs.). 6. Install the drive beltguard. 7. Fill the cooling system. 8. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Regards, netvan

Overheated when I drove up a hill. Stopped overheating when at Idle or waiting at stop light. There is coolant in the reservoir. Is this a stuck thermostadt? Kurt


Usually this is caused by a faulty water pump. Try replacing the drive belt first & see if that cures it. If not do a flush and fill replacing the thermostat at the same time. Cheap maintenance and should be done every 50k miles.

Wont hold water. big hose on the bottom of the radiator attaches 2 the engine and it leaks right out of the engine underneath that hose...


Well, if that Radiator hose is not leaking, then the Water pump seals have gone bad. More than likely you need a new water pump.

Vehicles w/ Timing Belt Driven Water Pumps Should Always Have The Water Pump Replaced When The Timing Belt Is Replaced.

If you do not, then the Timing Belt will fail, turning a low cost repair into thousands because of valve train damages. . .

I have a 91 lexus ls400 and its overheating. the only problem i can find is both electric fans dont kick on (i can wire them to a relay to bypass the factory wiring). i took the hoses off the engine and...


would have repaced the thermastadt. most commen cause of those fans not turning on because thr thermostadt is not letting the hot water flow into the radeattor .by passing the wiring and relays can only lead to bigger problems , but you have proven your fans work. water just drizled out of the block cause you had no water in the house to the pump ( no water to pump) thermostadts, temp sensors or temp sending unit .simple check for themostadt fill up with all houses attached with rad cap off run engine fill rad as needed keep feeling top hose to radiator it should get hot all of the sudden thats your thermostadt opening( working) go to next step check sensors or sending unit. realy best if you get a haynes or chilton at the half priced book store or auto parts storeand go to trouble shooting for over heating

My 98 ford contour keeps overheating i just replaced the radiator and the water pump. And there is no water in the oil. The fans work but it still overheats . What else could be causing it to overheat?


I can't believe anyone would replace the waterpump without also replacing the thermostat. Once overheated, a thermostat is no good anymore. It must be replaced.

But that is not the only possibility. You could have a bad head gasket, without having oil in the water. Only a pressure check can tell. You could also have a collapsing lower hose, as water pump suction causes it to pinch off. You could also have an air bubble from not bleeding it properly when refilling. You could also have a loose waterpump belt. You could have put in the wrong waterpump, as the type for normal V-belts runs the opposite direction of the type for serpentine belts.
There are many more, but that is all I could immediately think of.

Car is overheating but is holding fluids


Waterpump, loose/broken hose, or head gasket. Waterpump is most likely, unless recently changed. Make sure you get the Timing Belt done, unless it's also been done recently, if the water pump is replaced.

1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive


Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

Overheating


there are three hoses leading to the water pump. the biggest one oviously goes to the thermostat housing, but the other two are much smaller 1 inch hoses, one of wich goes on the water pump and the other on the thermostat housing. if you follow the hoses one will connect to the upper part of the overflow for the radiator after hitting a T in the lines, that hose connects to the thermostat housing, and the other goes to the water pump its self.
