I have a 2001 dodge grand caravan 3.8 engine. over the past month i have had several problems. the engine light came on with an overwhelming smell of gas and jerking. i took it to a shop they said one fuel injector is bad and the plenum gasket is leaking wanted to charge me over $1000.00 to do a bunch of matainence work and change those things. i called someone else he replaced the air filter and the engine light went off. later that day the air conditioner blower did not work i couldn't get heat defrost, or air. a couple of days later the engine light was back on with the same symptoms. i took it to a third mechanic he replaced the spark plugs and wires and fuel filter, griming seals, valve cover gasket and the front a/c blower motor. this all happened while in fl. on vacation. we drove home 5 days later. two days later the engine light was back on with little to no symptoms. the computer said idle to high. my brother replaced the tps. a day later it came back on stating same thing. a couple of days later i went just a few miles from my home and my overheat light came on i added water and antifreeze because the reservoir was below min and drove a few feet it did it again so to my destination and back home i had to stop every couple of feet because this continued. please help. single mother with 4 kids who just lost her job.

I replaced the EGR Valve ($80 after tax), problem solved, vanruns great now. Now my problem is that I can't get the light to turn off.

Once you have the new PCV valve locate the old one on your engine. It will sit on the middle of one of your valve covers (most likely passenger side) and will have a line that connects to the top of the valve. Simply pull the old one out and put the new one in snapping that line on the new one. Should only take about a minute to do. Hope this helps, let me know if it does.

a partial plugged cataylic convertor would case this. and under a load like towing a boat should have thrown a code. a exhaust back pressure test would show this. but normal driving would not throw a code.

Could it be the rear main seal? Some times oil can be "blown" around in bell housing from fly wheel. If you can pry the inspection plate with a little regular screw driver and oil starts to come out its a good chance its the rear main

there is a code 51 first of all, try putting octane boost in the tank, there has been several completes all across the country of watered gas, i have a 96 and a 95 neon and within days of filling both up the code 51 came up. the boost helped 1 and the MAP sensor had to be replaced on the 96. hope this helps
