They are elctro mechanical.make sure brake lights work and check all fuses. i dont care what they are marked because some fuses feed other fuses.if not electrical then the cable that goes to the key lock may have broke or fell out of adjustment

NOTE: The brake shift interlock actuator is not serviced individually. If replacement is required, install a new floor shift selector lever assembly.
For additional information, refer to Selector Lever - Floor Shift in this section.
Brake Shift Interlock Actuator - Column Shift Removal and Installation
  1. Set the parking brake.
  1. Remove the steering column shrouds.
  1. Turn the ignition to the accessory position and apply the brake or actuate the brake shift interlock actuator (BSIA) override.
  1. Put the selector lever into the NEUTRAL position.
  1. Disconnect the BSIA electrical connector.
  1. Remove the BSIA screw.
  1. Gently pry the clip up and remove the BSIA.
  1. NOTE: During installation, verify that the BSIA override has been activated and the slider is fully rearward. Before rotating the selector lever from NEUTRAL into PARK, align the selector lever tab into the BSIA. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Cannot locate shift interlock override

All vehicles should have your foot on the brake prior to shifting into gear from park. This could cause problems to your vehicle or even injure should this device be removed. Be responsible and use the brake pedal prior to shifting vehicle into gear. Heck, the vehicle is 22 years old.

My gear shift on my 2007 dodge magnum will not get out of park. Is there a way to temporarly fix it till i can get to a mechanic!?

The BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) has a small spring retainer on the park safety. A small plastic tab breaks & releases the spring. This requires the shifter to be disassembled in order to be repaired.

If you are lucky, your brake interlock is the only problem. There is a bypass switch located beside the gear selector. Remove the small "cubby" bin located next to the gear shift by simply lifting up to remove. You will note a small access port and a pink button contained therein. Press the pink button to override the brake interlock.

If you still cannot shift into park, then the shifter must be removed for the spring repair. Even if yours is still under warranty, you will get another shifter that will eventually fail due to poor engineering

2005 Dodge Magnum STX is stuck in park. Brake lights work, I can feel shift knob loosen but not disengage from park. Do you think it might be part of "the cup plug that retains the park pawl anchor shaft"...

Repaired mine Sunday May 1st and can provide detailed instructions if desired.

I have a 2005 impala it will not come out of netural or drive into park i think its the button on the side of the shifter please let me know how to fix this thank you

It could be a couple of things. The first thing i would check is to make sure the brake lights work. The shift interlock requires a signal from the brake light switch to allow the shifter to move. If the switch dosn't work the shifter will be stuck in park.

There should be an shift interlock override somewhere near the shifter for situations such as this. Look in your owners manual for a more detailed location and instructions on using the override.
