Question about 2003 Bentley Continental GT

Open Question

I have a 2005 Bentley GT and want to disconnect the tire pressure alarm and warning lights rather than replace all 4 tire the sensors as I was told was necessary. Is it possible to disconnect just the tire pressure warning system?

Can I repair tire light myself?

No you cannot disable the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) yourself (because it requires you to mess with the onboard computer system) but the dealer service center can. They probably will not do it though as the system is mandatory on cars sold in the US and they don't want to take any liability risks(nor will any other professional).

If the TPMS warning light is displaying and your tire pressures are at or above the recommended settings then normally one of the TPMS sensors(which are a combined sensor and tire valve fitting) fitted to one or more of the wheels has failed and needs to be replaced. The sensors will never last the life of the car and will need replacing more than once over the life span of the car.

Until the problem with the TPMS is fixed the warning light will remain. Frankly I would not worry about it unless the warning light is annoying you when driving. Just make sure you check your tire pressures regularly( to keep them at or above the recommended pressures ) which you should be doing anyway .

Warning light appeared on the dash, its red in colour looks like a horse shoe with an exlamation mark in the middke

That is the low tire pressure warning. It can come on for several reasons. It commonly comes on in the fall as temperatures drop, the air in the tires contracts and the pressure drops. Check the air pressure and fill as needed. The tires also all need to be within 4 psi of each other.
Another common cause is that one or more tire sensor needs the battery replaced. This is not generally considered a DYI project because for most cars the tires must be removed from the rims. Finally the sensor can be damaged by hitting a curb or by adding chemicals into the tire used to seal small leaks.
As long as you check your tires visually prior to driving it is usually ok to wait to service the sensor for when you replace or rotate your tires.

Please keep in mind driving on a tire with low pressure can damage the tire, the rim or even cause delamination of the tread and cause an accident. The Firestone recall that involved Ford Explorers several years ago was from driving on tires with low pressure.

Own a 2004 VW Phaeton V8. Recently bought it with 56,000 miles. Tire pressure warning indicator is on. Just filled tires and pressure is at correct level. Seems like a common problem. Is there anything...

Hi. It is very difficult to remove the Tire pressure warning system.
To reset the light, the vehicle must be driven for a period of about 20 minutes. After the pressures have been check(don't forget the spare, unless you have set the monitoring of it off). If this does not reset it, then there may be a fault in the system. This needs to be rectified by a VW franchise. The sensors are often damaged when the tyres are replaced.
Hope this helps.

When you "fill" the tires they must be within 3 lbs of each other or the tire pressure warning light will come on. If the tires are "filled" correctly and the tire pressure light still comes on, you may have a tire pressure sensor that has gone bad. You would then have to take your car in to the dealer or tire shop to determine which tire sensor is bad.
Good luck.

The check tire pressure light and ABS auto traction sensor light keep coming on. Tire pressure is good

The tire pressure monitor detects any changes in the tire inflation pressure. Therefore, it must initialize and store it in its memory if the tires or wheels have been replaced, re-inflated or the tires have been rotated. You should be able to re-initialize the system by following these steps:

1. check and make sure that your tires are inflated to the correct pressure

2. turn the ignition switch to the ON position. If the low tire pressure warning light comes on, push and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch (think the switch is in the glovebox, but not sure) until the warning light turns off and then release the switch.

3. now press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch until the low tire pressure warning light blinks three times.

4. initialization is *not* completed until driving at the vehicle speed of 19 mph or over for more than one hour. the tire pressure monitoring starts when initialization is completed.

Tire pressure light is on

You cannot reset them,Make sure that you check the pressures in the tires. The Infiniti Tire Pressure Monitoring System is designed to trip the warning light anytime the pressure in any of the tires drops below 29 psi. At 29 psi it really won't look like the tires are low. You could have one tire at 29 or 28 causing the light to stay on all the time. Check your pressures, set at 34 or 35 to be safe, or whatever pressure the tire is recommended to be. Not all infiniti vehicles with TPMS have the display that shows the pressure in each tire. If the pressures are above 29 psi, Then there could be an issue with one or more of the sensors. If you have the tires replaced you will have to have the sensors relearned at the dealer. Tire rotations do not require the same.
