Question about 1992 Ford LTD

1 Answer

We have a Ford LTD 1998 Car. Today the electronics started to play up. A picture of a flashing light bulb has shown up on the screen. Also the battery meter dial is going up & down, from nil to half way... all the other electronics are blinking on and off aswell. A few weeks ago the battery wouldn't start. A automotive technician had a look and said the battery was old & he charged it up, could this be connected?, should we have put a new battery in.

You swear your car is coming apart in every way. I promise you, if a battery has a short(or collapsed cell) it will become hard to crank, start, and will make a very minor lighting issue look like it's going to take a complete rebuild. Replace your battery and make sure you put the proper "group" or size in the vehicle. This is important because you need something that will not only handle day to day ops but all the little bells and whistles that get added in. About 800 CCA is going to be a good battrey for these cars. Autozone has them for about $95 with warranty. Lel me know if you need anything else.

Did you have the new ignition switch programmed to the old computer before you changed the computer? Parts were programmed back then, and you wouldn't believe what parts have to be programmed in cars made today! Door switches for example, need to be programmed in!

My turn signals are wacky. Began w/both starting to flash then go off. Last niteleft arrow on dash on all the time and it flashes double speed w/left arrow on dash stays lit when signal is turned off.

Flashing too fast is typically a sign of a bulb out. Start with turning the 4-way flasher on, and walk around the car. All working? Bulbs ok if so, and that means replacing the flasher itself. Not an expensive part. The folks that change your oil are able to do that for you if you like.

Most hazards flash brake lights not the turn signals, double check your signal bulbs. Try to get it to flas fast and visually inspect which bulb isn't working. Then replace that bulb

1998 Ford Explorer blinker problems

you need to go back over all the bulbs. Take each one out and put it back in making sure its working properly. Most likely a bulb is not grounding. I had this on a f-150 that took two days to track down. Good luck

Turn signals have quit working

Many times the turning signals will quit because a bulb has gone out. Have the bulbs checked first.
