Thankfully for you that your truck is old enough to not care about a cat. But if you do live in an emissions state then i would encourage you not to for you may fail inspection. However, you can also buy a high flow cat and get almost the same results as not having one at all.

Two issues one the pollution it creats but more importantly it will through off your fuel trim the rear oxygen sensor will constanly read rich so it will tell the engine to lean the fuel mixture robbing your engine performance and fuel mileage so basically unless youve done other engine mods (reprogramed computer or o2 imulators) the engine is desinged to run with a converter keep the engine tuned up and the converter will last forever a pour running engine will ruin a converter quikly hope this helps keep it legal

Your exhaust system could need to be replaced. By removing the cats you lost required back pressure that gives your car power.

351 windsor

You can tell by looks or by the VIN number if the engine is original.
The fifth digit could be H or Q. H is for the Windsor engine and Q is for Cleveland. The Windsor looks like an ordinary 289 or 302 engine, the Cleveland is a big head 400 version. I don't think they used a 4bbl Windsor but they did use a 2bbl Cleveland so that is not a good example.

You may have knocked a piece of dirt loose or the fluid level is to high or to low, add a can of LUCAS transmission conditioner and see if that clears up the problem.

like a dustbin ,if you remove the silencer it will run rough and lose the fuel economy the first silencer ?? does this vehicle have a cat all europeon cars from 92 were cats so this first box could be the cat .Also it will not pass the annual mechanical inspection and you could render yourself liable for a fine and points on licence for a noisy vehicle

Any time a change is made regarding either intake or exhaust flow, it is possible that you may exceed the working parameters of the control system. The loss of 3mpg is not large, but the amount of "built in" restriction the cat creates is not large either. With early carbureted engines that also had adjustable timing, it was easy to restore the proper fuel air mixture to the engine and therefore compensate for flow changes, A change such as removing the cat would often increase fuel mileage and add a few horsepower to your engine output. In today's systems, without adding special computer add- ons to enable reprogramming of the fuel and timing curve, that's pretty much impossible. Unfortunately, you likely need to put the cat back on.
