Question about 1990 Chevrolet K2500

3 Answers

I have a 1988 Chevy K2500, V8-350 cu. in with TBI. I have fire, but there is no fire running to the fuel pump. There is a new fuel pump relay installed and the fuse is also good. Truck ran fine, then started shutting off when it got to temp, now it wont even start. Again I have fire, the fuel pump works, but there is no fire getting to the fuel pump. Is there a switch or sensor that shuts off the fuel. I also have a new ICM and ECM. Thanks.

You have a loose ground going to your fuel pump.

Oil pressure switch puts power to the pump after it is started.

Pumps also tend to loose their ground with age. I often splice in a new ground at the pump to eliminate that problem area.

Need some votes, thanks

Disconnect the oil pressure switch. Use a metal paper clip in the end of the connector to bypass the switch and fool the computer. It it works you should get fuel pressure. Then you have either lo oil pressure or a bad oil pressure switch.

  1. jumper the fuel pump relay (Power source to Load)
  2. relay control runs through an oil press switch
  3. there maybe 2 of them
  4. 1 for oil pressure guage and
  5. 1 for fuel pump cut off
  6. check both
  7. hope this helps

How do I jump a fuel pump relay of a 1988 GMC K2500 with a 5.7L to get power to a sending unit from a 1998 GMC C1500 with a 5.0L V8?

Not sure that we are thinking of the same thing. The wires to the gas tank operate the fuel pump and the fuel gauge. The relay is used to send power to the pump and you should not have to do anything to it to get power down the wire to the pump. When you turn on the key, the relay closes and power goes to the in tank fuel pump.

Fuel injection needs 20-30 pound pressure to fire the injectors. Try to check pressure before filter. If its low your pump is no good. If its ok then you have pressure drop after the filter. Filter on backwards or clogged.
