Question about 2002 Ford F250 Super Duty SuperCab

Open Question

2002 F-250 Superduty Power Stroke. Replaced my factory hubs with Waren Hubs, after locking the hubs they worked great for a while, and now they will not lock in. Had the mechanic check them since they are garranteed, and he found a lock ring off on my right passanger side, which he said the drivers side was engaged, but the passangers side was not. He fixed it, and a day later no 4--Wheel drive again. Is there something I an missy? My process to lock in the 4X4 is to, turn the hubs to lock, engage the transfer case by turning the on-the-fly switch to 4X4 High, put in drive and nothing. I even tried 4x4 low and the transfre case appears to be engaging since it is real low. Do you think the hub spring is just not pushing the gear into the front axle gearing?

SOURCE: 1998 ford ranger 4x4 Front Axle hubs will not engage

I found a website that explaned that you can remove the hub and dust cover, inside is a spring which holds the hub out, removing this spring and replacing the rubber dust cover and hub will lock your front hubs in continious. as is done on later models, This has worked for my 98 4wd

SOURCE: Front hubs wont engage

There are two parts to the auto-locking hubs. Inner and outer. Both of them have small tabs on each of the 'cams'. Chances are, they are broken off on the outer hub. When you clean them up real good, you can see them. I believe when the axles turn the outer hub, the inner and outer cams push against spring pressure and lock the unit to the wheel hub. These hubs will break when engaged at higher speeds, especially on a dry tar road.

It sounds like your front hubs are worn out. Actually just 1 of them. You can put in 4 high or low pull it forward chock it raise the frnt wheels to see which one isnt locking by turning it. Most people just go ahead and buy new set of manual Waren lockers.

Auto locking hub sucks is there a aftermarket manual locking hub kit

Unlike the 97-03 MY F-150s, the 04-08 MY use vacuum to hold the IWE ( Integrated Wheel End ) out, and once vacuum is removed the IWE spring engages the gears to lock the wheels to the front axle.

I have not seen a replacement front axle with manual hubs yet, checking Warn's site. Maybe check with Warn, but from the application list, 1996 was the last F-150 hub conversion kit they make. SuperDuty is 04, but that is an option from Ford up until 04.

Four wheel drive lights come on but no four wheel drive

The light comes on indicating that the transfer case is engaged in 4wd, but that doesn't mean the hubs are locked. If you have automatic locking hubs, you should check to make sure they are working correctly. This GM vehicle may be equipped with vacuum locking hubs... meaning there is a vacuum line running from the transfer case selector to the hubs on each side. The vacuum makes the hubs lock into place. If those vacuum lines are damaged or missing, they wont lock. If you have electronic locking hubs, they may need to be replaced. Good luck.

Ford 250 auto/lock hubs

I have the same hubs on my truck as what you have. I have been told it can be done you just have to know if you have a dana 50 or 60 front axle. The warn hubs i'm sure are a better quality hub but if your worried about the auto feature of your current hubs. That is vacuum accuated when you 4 wheel drive is engaged. And there fore vacuum engaged. Mine used to work great but after a lot of mudding sand got into seals and vacuum didn't work anymore so i treat them as free/lock hubs.
