Hey, I had to do this to my buick. I guess its a common issue with gm's..The security system fails then it wont always start... read this over.. I did and you car make and model are on the list for this issue
possible float sticking in carb or fuel pump not working. can you see gas spray in carb when manually operating throttle? Does it backfire when running? if so it may have jumped time,
Let it run for about 10-15 minutes after it cools down. After the 10-15 minutes (but don't let it overheat) squeeze the top hose to see it it's hard. If it is, it's probably the thermostat, and the coolant isn't flowing through the engine to the radiator. It's just staying in the engine and getting hot.
Your automatic choke is probably sticking. Spray it out with 2+2 Carb and Choke Cleaner. Do this when the car is cold so you don't start a fire. While the car is running see what position the choke butterfly is in when the engine is hot. If it is partially closed you may have a bad spring in the choke mechanism or it may need an adjustment.
You could try removing it and clearing it with compressed air flowing reverse the normal system route. I would recommend that if you do try that, you use air that has gone through a air/water separator if your in a other than dry climate.
poss. is fuel pressure reg. problem. put a guage on the test port and check press. should be above 35psi. see if it stays running when you spray choke cleaner in the pcv valve steadily while starting. if the engine stays running after a few seconds of running on choke cleaner then probably a bad fuel pump relay cause the oil pressure switch will keep the pump on without the relay when it has good oil pressure.
let me know if ya can do this or if it helps.
