This is likely that somewhere in the area that the technician was supposed to be working, he failed to hook up a small vacuum hose and this one deos seem a little critical. Look at everywhere he would have been. If you do not have the time or ability, return it to the shop and have them fix it right and to YOUR satisfaction. And your satisfaction doesn't mean getting hit for another $300 in parts and labor. DO NOT go for it. They didn't hook or they broke a simple vacuum line. Let them fix it. Let me know if you need anything else.

Check and set your ignition timing to the correct specifications. Next, clean the mass air flow sensor and see if the code goes away, if it does not go away then you will need to buy a new mass air flow sensor. If the MAF sensor has been replaced with a new one and you are still getting code P171 then you will need to replace the Oxygen Sensor

Check engine light is on. Does replacing the oil filter fix the problem? The codes are: P171, P174

very Unlikely this will have any affect. sounds more like an air leak to me.
You will find all codes available at http://www.bluejag.co.uk/decode.php

Fault Code:- P0171 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Emission Management (Fuel or Air) area

Fault Description: Bank 1 combustion too lean

Action of ECM:- ECM Default:- Bank 1 catalyst warm-up ignition ****** inhibited- Bank 1 closed loop fuel metering inhibited- Canister purge inhibited- Maximum engine speed reduced

After clearing the DTC, complete the Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature> 82 °C (180 °F) Idle for 10 minutes
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

Possible Fault:- Engine misfire Air intake leak between MAF Sensor and throttle Fuel filter / system restriction Fuel injector restriction Low fuel pump output HO2 Sensor(s) (1/1, 1/2) harness wiring condition fault Exhaust leak (before catalyst) ECM receiving incorrect signal from one or more of the following components: ECT Sensor, MAF Sensor, IAT Sensor, TP Sensor
Fault Code:- P0174 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Emission Management (Fuel or Air) area

Fault Description: Bank 2 combustion too lean

Engine light code p171 comes up. I recently changed the air flow sensor. Everything else is working fine. What can this be in a Toyota Corolla 2003?

DTC P0171 is set when fuel trim is driven rich beyond a certain value. Possible causes are:
1. Exhaust system leak.
2. Improper fuel pressure.
3. Fuel injector restricted.
4. Defective heated oxygen sensor No. 1.
5. Defective Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
6. Defective Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.

System Too Lean. This code will set when an air fuel ratio sensor (O2 sensor) gets lazy.

Also, check for a vacuum leak on that side.

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee special editon 4.7 v8. Got a reading of a p171 fault code. What could cause this. Jeep was running fine filled it up then the gas mileage started to decline rapidly and...

I looked up the code and it said p171 was a lean air mixture.
Lucas could help if it were a clogged injector.

Lucas Fuel Treatment
Lucas Fuel Treatment is formulated for both gasoline and diesel engines, carbureted or fuel injected. It gives your fuel system what it really needs - a blend of super slick oils and additives with a high detergent action that allows the engine to operate at maximum efficiency. Also, it cleans and lubricates the carburetor and injectors and causes the fuel to burn more thoroughly for increased power and less fuel consumption. Lucas Fuel Treatment should definitely be used in vehicles that require leaded fuel because it actually replaces the benefits of lead in gasoline without causing harmful emissions. Use it to pass smog tests. Finally, it totally neutralizes the harmful effects of low sulfur diesel fuel.

I do not know what the humming noise would be, exactly. It's kind of hard to diagnose without hearing what and where.

However, I would check all fluid levels to make sure that they're ok, as a start.

My 97 taurus takes a long time to start sometimes not until engine cools down after driven. obd2 codes 443 174 171 keep showing up then engine light comes on then sputters and stalls can anyone tell me...

P171 and 174 is running lean that means you have either no fuel pressure, bad fuel pump, cloged fuel filter and somethimes vacum leak on your intake manifold gasket.
443 indicates EGR valve solenoid malfunction.
