Question about Ford Taurus
Black wire is always a ground wire but if it was installed later on (from an aftermarket alarm, radio, amp, etc) then it could be hot. Get a multimeter and touch the end of the black wire with the vehicle turned on and see if it has power running through it, if it does have power then tape it off with some black electrical tape untill you figure out where it goes. The box next to the battery under the hood is where all of the relays are located (fuel pump relay, main relay etc) and they look like big square mini boxes when pulled out. Check that your battery cables are firmly attached to the battery and look closly at the red positive battery cable and follow it down to the starter and make sure it is not loose. If your battery cables are good then check your fuse located underneath the drivers side steering wheel. Remove the plastic cover and there will be a diagram that shows what fuse controls what componant, replace the fuse that goes to the starter. If your starter fuse and relay are good then your stater solinoid has failed and you will need to replace the starter or have it rebuilt
