The red battery symbol indicates a problem in the charging
system , usually an alternator gone bad or possibily
a blown fuse or associated wiring problem.
Advance auto can check it for free.

If you have a red battery light on , a great percentage of the time , it is the
alternator , the vehicle has no way of checking the battery , however
if the alternator isnt charging properly , your battery light will come on ,
as i suggested previously , advance auto can check it for free.

Have the battery load tested. Have the Diodes checked in the Alternator. What can sometimes happen is the small plastic plug-in that supplies power to the stator will ride up inside the plastic clip. What mechanics have done is work the wire out of the plastic clip.and secure the wire on the tab inside the Alternator. You would then slide the plastic back down the wire and snap click it into place.

Should you check out good for both the battery and Alternator, you need to find a short. With several circuits staying "live" at all times, this is not an easy diagnosis. Ford has some Circuit analyzers which fit in-between the major PIN connectors and some of these connectors have up to 100 pins. These Circuit analyzers test all the plug connectors at 1 time. The time savings are major.

You can individually test individual circuits. You probably have a Relay staying on when the ignition is shut off. It will be time consuming to find.

Red battery light on dash ford 1999 expedition battery tested 12 volts not running with all electrical on and engine running 14 volts at battery terminals

Charging is sufficient you want 2 volts above battery, for that dash to be on there will be a terminal on the alternator that is not connected it is a single wire you will need to make sure that it is connected, the terminal have tendency to break off and sometimes people who put the alternator on forget to put that terminal on they just dont see it it a wire by itself

How can I check my alternator on my 1999 Ford Ranger. The Ranger died on the side of the road today, and all that showed was to check the battery prior for about 10 minutes.

well...whenever the battery light comes on in a vehicle its almost always a charging problem,i would suggest replacing the alternator and charging the battery before starting it,alternators were meant to keep a battery charged NOT charge a battery, hope this helps

New alternator has been put on and new battery but battery light on dashboard is not coming on and it did before the new alternator has been looked at 4 times and told theres nothing wrong but it just dies...

Check all your fuses..you should have one for the alternator, or it might say Batt. or it even may say Charge... and if your battery keeps dying out, and the alternator is being checked with a voltmeter, and its showing good..then your problem is somewhere else....Also check your connections to the alternator..Sometimes they burn out on fords.. Also check your cables that on your battery...And make sure the terminals are good/clean, and tight...Goodluck...

one of the symptoms of a bad alternator is the battery light to come on so maybe you should check your alternator .

Could be battery. The starter takes a lot more amps than the lights or radio. You should get a jump to start the truck. Then drive to your nearest chain auto parts store. Most of them will do free battery and charging system checks. You could also try disconnecting the positve ( red) terminal of the battery after you get it running. If the engine dies your alternantor is bad. You should also get your battery checked if your alterator is bad. Sometimes a bad alternator damages the battery.
