Does the instrument cluster for my GM 07 Avalanche have a independent bulb for the PRNDL & information center display? Or is the display integrated in the instrument cluster requiring the whole module to be replaced?

You haven't a clue what your messing with , no wires to check , The stepper motors in the cluster . GM had problems with them 2003 to 2006 . All the information for the instrument cluster comes from the PCM on class two serial data bus . Control module communication network . How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper The only way to check signal to instrument cluster is with a GM Tech 2 factory scan tool .There is a computer chip inside the cluster.
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed on the analog speedometer based on the vehicle speed signal from the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4,000 pulses/mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed.

2003 Chevy Avalanche won't start (incorrect gear indicator)


PRNDL Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display blanks if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.
• The IPC receives a class 2 message indicating the park position and the column park switch indicates a position other than park, open input.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

Could be the transmission range sensor . Testing would need to be done , hooking up a scan tool ! Doing electrical testing etc...

The gauges stopped working. how do I fix? I checked all the fuses and they are fine.


There is a good chance that your instrument cluster has gone bad. There was a TSB for this issue and that the Dealer was going to replace the instrument cluster without any cost.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Instrument panel clusters (IPC) required to complete this special coverage are to be obtained from the Electronic Service Centers. Refer to GM Service Policies and Procedures Manual, section 1.5.9, for specific procedures. To eliminate keeping the customer's vehicle overnight, customers are being told to contact the dealership to arrange a service appointment and to supply their VIN. Dealers are to pre-order the IPC identifying the part from the Electronic Parts Catalog using the VIN filter so it will be at the dealership on the day of the scheduled appointment.
1. The customer will contact the dealership to arrange an appointment and provide their VIN.
2. Contact a GM Authorized Electronic Service Center to order an exchange and arrange for delivery of the pre-exchange product.
3. All units will be shipped FedEx Ground.
4. After removal of the defective unit, return the defective core to the Electronic Service Center using the supplied pre-paid Automatic Return shipping (ARS) label.
5. Failure to return the product within 30 days to the Electronic Service Center will result in a charge to the Dealer's Open Parts Account.

Replace spedometer cable 2003 gmc yukon xl


There is no speedometer cable on the 2003 Yukon, if there is no transmission issues like shifting problem. Your instrument cluster has gone bad, to pinpoint. Your stepper motor to your speedometer gauge has failed and needs to be replaced. You can do a search on Ebay for the stepper motor for around $10.00 which is better then the $400.00 cost of another instrument cluster.
There was a TSB on the replacement of the instrument cluster for your Yukon free of charge. The only cost to you is the labor charge unless your willing to do the job your self. Instrument panel cluster and driver information center not working. checked fuses under hood, what else?


GM has had a issue with the clusters in the 2003-2005 trucks. The cluster will be replaced for free for your truck if it has less then 70k miles. I would take it to your local dealer and tell them that the voltage gauge sticks at times. They should order one for you, takes 1-2 days and replace it for you at no charge. If this does not fix the problem, you will have a new cluster at no charge.Unless the battery light comes on, the alternator should be good. This is a copy of the GM bulletin.

Speedometer freezes


GM has had a issue with the clusters in the 2003-2005 trucks. The cluster will be replaced for free for your truck if it has less then 70k miles.
