If it was making the noise you described I would say that the wheel bearings on one or both sides need to be replaced. the locks for the hubs won't make that sound all they do is engage wheel to axle. the wheel bearing will make that noise.

to repair you need a wheel bearing hub assembly cost $220. Next remove the tire then the brake caliper and brakes along with the brake carriage that holds the brake pads remove the rotor. next take the locking hub off then use c clip pliers to remove the small clip on the axle then on the backside of the axle look for 4 bolts that hold the wheel bearing to the axle and unbolt the wheel bearing.

1999 Ford Ranger Front right brakes are making a grinding sound and a high pitch when i turn left, Do you know what it is ?

the grinding sound and the high pitch sound may not be related.
the grinding in the brakes means it is time to replace the brake pads / shoes and either replace or repair the discs and drums.

the high pitch noise that you are hearing while turning is more likely caused by a worn belt, low power steering fluid, or a faulty power steering pump.

Although it could be indicating something more serious like hub bearings going out, your best bet is to take it to a front end shop that offers free estimates and have them diagnose it in person.

hope this helps.

Deep growling sound could well be a bad wheel bearing. A bad cv joint will generally make a click or clacking sound, usually while only turning. While driving, you can often change the pitch of a bad wheel bearing with a slight turn of the steering wheel (note - slightly, no crazy zig-zag). What you're doing is shifting the weight on/off of this bearing and the pitch will change if it's bad. Only way to verify is to remove it and feel it in hand. It's a sealed hub/bearing assembly and only replaceable, not serviceable.

Is the noise a screeching high pitch or a growling low pitch?
It sounds to me that the CV joints might be bad and you need brakes.
high pitch would be the brake warning tabs
the low pitch would be the brake pads are gone and you are on the rotors gringing away metal

Have you checked to see if your caliper is seized? It should move in and out with no restriction. If it is ok have your wheel bearing checked.
