Question about Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy station wagon. My check engine light, and Battery icon light are on indicating an electrical problem. I've had to jump my car repeatedly in order to get it started. I purchased and installed a brand new battery from Auto zone. Although I was able to star the car the "lights" (engine and battery icon) are still on indicating that maybe the alternator is bad. Since my funds are low at this moment I'm unable to purchase and install an alternator and I have to use the car. So I decided to charge the battery in my home each night. I felt that in order to lessen the stress on the battery poles I would install a "battery terminal quick connect" to each of the battery poles. However now the car will not start. I looked at the connection that a friend of mine has in her 1995 subaru legacy station wagon and virtualy made the same connection and still there was no starting. Now I'm wondering that maybe the 1997 connections are different from the 1995 connection or maybe I've blown a fuse. Please provide a wiring diagram for the subaru if you have one available. Thank you, Pierpont

On a battery there is a plus + and minus - plus is generally red and minus or negative is generally black. if you have hooked them up you will likely blow the main fuse. you mention it will not start... does it even turn over ? also autozone will scan the codes for free to let you know why those lights are on.
next and use a great deal of caution. when the motor is running you remove the positive cable. if the car keeps running... it's the battery... if it dies it's the alternator that has failed. do that outside with lots of ventilation and try not to create a spark. after you have unhooked the cable.. shut off the car and reconnect the cable.

1992 Subaru legacy wagon will not shift up from first gear. it is an AT.

run the fault but all you describe is operated from the VSS sensor ( vehicle speed sensor)
it tells the cruise control the vehicle speed , tells the TCM the vehicle speed so that ratios can be changed, activates the speedo, and will report with a check engine light to report a transmission problem
run the fault codes first

How come my wagon won't start but only sometimes?

Sounds like weak connection somewhere,I would start by one at a time, clean by scraping the prongs of each fuse. If this does not resolve your issue go by one of the parts houses that provide free electrical and charging system checks

Just bought a subaru legacy grand wagon and none of the central locking (passenger doors or boot) works. There is a vague click from behind the glove box somewhere, but that is all.

Entertain the possibility that feature was bad, killing the battery over and over, and a prior owner disabled it to save himself and all future owners a lot of jump start aggravation. Power locks seem to have a common problem of self activation on and off when the ignition is off. Now I do not think that my Subaru has this problem, but if and when it develops dead battery in the morning syndrome that is the first place I will look.

My 1994 subaru legacy wagon won't start. when I turn the key nothing happens apart from a click. This occurred straight after I tried to Jump Start a Van.

try to jump start your car see if the interior lights are real dim headligjhts maybe you drained your battery too much or burned your alternator also check the fuse for your alternator see if blew hope this helps also check the fuse for your battery and check make sure the terminals are tight not dirty

How do I reset the ''check engine'' light on my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon?

the check engine light comes on if there is a problem with thecomputer system related to the emmision, when this is is repaired the light on can only be turned off with a monitor, code reader. some of these are quite inexpensive.over the web or at a part store.

Loss of boost and engine check light on

Please have the computer scanned for codes. Autozone or Pepboys will do it task for free. It sounds like it could be related to your fuel sustem or exhaust. But I need more info to be more spesific. Good luck.
