Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2Note: This definition of P0430 is applied to all manufacturers
As the code description implies the P0430 code means that the vehicle's control module has detected that the three-way catalytic converter is not working properly (is not as efficient as the factory is expecting). Replacing the oxygen (O2) sensors may sometimes fix the code, but in most cases the catalytic convert needs to be replaced to fix the problem. If the P0430 code is combined with other codes, try fixing the other codes first.
P0430 Ford - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2
Possible causes
- Three way catalyst converter Bank 2
- Exhaust tube
- Intake air leaks
- Fuel injectors may be faulty
- Fuel injector leaks
- Spark plugs may be faulty
- Improper ignition timing
- Engine Control Module (ECM)

P0430 is a catalyst efficiency code. If there are no leaks in the exhaust or any vacuum leaks that could affect O2 sensor operation and the O2 sensors are working properly then it's possible that you need a catalytic converter. If you have access to a scanner capable of reading live data plug it in and take the vehicle on the high way at a steady 55-60 mph. The O2 sensor should read somewhere around 700 mv give or take but should not fluctuate to much. If it does you need a catalyst bank #2. Good luck!
P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2. The most common cause it the three way catalyst converter Bank 2. Common Problems That Trigger the P0430 Code
I hate to tell you this, but it is time to stick your hands DEEP into your pockets and get ready to spend the big bucks! Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0420 and P0430 are "catalyst efficiency below threshold" codes. The ONLY way to fix them is to replace your catalytic converters. If you also have any other codes, you must fix these FIRST, otherwise you will only destroy new converters as well.
Code P0430 - For Continuous Memory Only -- Check for missfire detection monitor (dtc) -- Bank 2 catalyst system effciency is below acceptable threshold -- possible causes are
-Faulty HO2S
-Faulty ETC sensor
- High Fuel Pressure
- Damaged exhaust components
- Oil Contamination
- Cylinder Missfire
- Downstream O2 sensor improperly connected
- Retarted Spark Timing
Most times the problem is the Downstream O2 sensor is defective
no unless u have Ford scanner
