A serpentine belt tensioner. Tell the parts person the year, make, model and the engine size. They will know what to get you. Open the box to make sure it comes with the appropriate gaskets. Hope this helps. Good luck

How do i change my thermostat..i need a diagram and pictures if available

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need , please get back to me with any questions.

specific instructions and picture below.

Drain the radiator until the coolant is below the thermostat level (below the level of the intake manifold).

  1. Remove the water outlet elbow assembly from the engine. Remove the thermostat from the engine, or, on the 4.8L, from inside the adapter elbow.

To install:
  1. Clean the gasket surfaces on the water outlet elbow and the intake manifold. Use a new gasket when installing the elbow to the manifold.
  2. Install the new thermostat making sure the spring side is inserted into the engine, or, on the 4.8L, downward into the thermostat housing. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). On the 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L tighten the studs to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). On the 7.4L tighten the bolts to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
  3. Refill the cooling system. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Belt tensioner has hairline split causing water to leak and overheat.2000 buick lasabre 3800 engine,380 motor

yes belt tesioner is internal part of cooling system it has two plastic elbows with o-rings that crack crumble and deterioate haven,t seen crack in aluminum part though but remove belt by releasing tensioner remove alternator and idler pulley then remove bolts holding tensioner assembly to head and block this entire thing can be purchased thru napa i know but do not reuse the plastic elbows and make sure to lubricate the o-rings on new elbows so when istalled puthe the elbows in the assembly first lower it in place lined up with waterholes and gently push in and slide in place

Ecm codes are po174 po171 states to check MAF sensor or suspect fuel pressure. vehicle runs fine until you come to a stop or it is idling

Take a look at the rubber elbow on the back of the throttle body. It is under the plastic throttle body cover. This elbow can crack and allow un metered air into the system.

In this picture, it is just above the oval around the IAC

Also check the intake & air filter housing. If you just replaced the airfilter, the intake could have an air leak after the MAFS ( Mass Air Flow Sensor ). The MAFS is in the housing that the air filter is in.

Where can i find the thermostat on 1986 gmc jimmy

Follow the upper radiator hose to the outlet elbow (the waterneck!) and it is located under it:

Removal & Installation
  1. Drain the radiator until the coolant level is below the thermostat level (below the level of the intake manifold).
CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Remove the water outlet elbow assembly from the engine. Remove the thermostat from inside the elbow.
  2. Install new thermostat in the reverse order of removal, making sure the spring side is inserted into the elbow. Clean the gasket surfaces on the water outlet elbow and the intake manifold. Use a new gasket when installing the elbow to the manifold. On later models the thermostat housing may have been sealed with RTV sealant. If so, place a 1/8 inch bead of RTV sealer all around the thermostat housing sealing surface on the intake manifold and install the housing while it is still wet. Refill the radiator to approximately 21/2 inch below the filler neck.
If the thermostat is equipped with a pin hole, be sure to install pin side facing upwards.

Just put new spark plugs in 97 buick lasabre. Car now starts and runs, but is blowing out white smoke. Is this blown head gaskets? Does it have anything to do with the fuel pump put on 3 weeks ago?

these cars have issues with coolent getting into the intake... headgaskets are not one of the issues . check plugs for coolent. upper plastic intake has coolent flow in to chambers if u will, and over time they get micro cracks and brittle ...lower intake manifold gaskets are plastic also. ..cyl. heads are cast iron not alluminum . lower intake manifold is alluminum and upper intake is plastic .. on my lesabre a plastic 90 degree elbow connected to the lower intake manifold to the heater hose housing. the belt tensioner is connected to this housing im refering to. not saying for sure, but if it is this is usually why...
