Don't. What you have to do is take the ashtray out then remove the 2 screws. Pry the whole assembly off and replace the switch in the back. The knob only moves the switch back and forth and nothing more.

I would take it in to a shop and have a free brake inspection done. They will give you a list of things wrong , and you can go from there.

chances are the blower switch has an internal open and needs to be replaced. if you remove the ashtray there is 2 screws to remove and pull the bottom piece out. check the wires for the blower switch for any melting. if they are ok replace blower switch

My 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis had a similiar problem. The blower fan continuously ran at full blast and wouldn't shut off now matter what!
It was the part called the Blower Motor Resistor had gone out. I purchased it for $50.00 from the Dealer and replaced it myself. You can get a diagram from your dealer or online. It is kind of hard to get to but if the dealer had replaced it.....it would have cost $200!
