It is very possible that the refrigarent level is low and the system needs charging.

You may have a leak. At higher rpm's a/c compressor works better, that at idle, because it turns alot faster. Your level of R134 may be low in a/c system. Have garage check, how much R134 a you have in there.

SOURCE: The air conditioner only blows

Buy a Ford. That's what I had to do after the compressor locked up, broke the belt, at 61k miles. Customer No-Service wouldn't do anything even though the truck had been in the shop 5-6 times in 1.5 years for your same problem with no resolution. Cost me $700 and I told corporate I'd never buy another GM.

SOURCE: air conditioner only works while moving. The AC stops cooling when stopped and idleing. Anyone know what causes this?

Your freon level is low, and not circulating on slow compressor speeds. Stop by any shop that has a sign stating they work on a/c and they can recharge it for you in a few minutes. Here where I live they charge about $20.00 labor plus a charge for the freon they put in, they sell it by the pound.

SOURCE: Air Conditioner stops blowing cold air when vehicle is not moving

possibly low on freon. check for a/c oil stains/wet spots around all a/c connections. This will be where a freon leak would be.
Make sure cooling fans come on when the a/c is engaged.

Count how many times the clutch cycles in a minute. 4 to 7 is spec at 70 degrees F

No easy answer as it could be a lot of things from simple and cheap to difficult and expensive. The cooling agents used in air conditioing systems do not go bad or need to be replaced unless you have a leak in the system. Find a reputable independant mechannic to check it out.

check for a bad earth in the system . Possibly the earth strap on the motor or dirty battery terminals . IF the temp gauge will not work (bad earth ) and the ac stops working ( cabin air temp reaches setting) or the circuit has an earth problem switching off the ac. Check all wires for broken , not connected properly and check each earth point for clean and tight.

Suburban overheating and air conditioner blowing hot

If you have a viscous fan hub have it replaced as it is not working. The problem you have is that the engine is not driving the fan to draw air through the radiator when idling so the engine overheats . When moving the air flow from driving cools the radiator and so the temp goes back down. If you have electric fans have the codes read to find the fault or check why the electric fans are not working.

You describe a typical 'cooling fan' problem. When moving through the air, the AC operates normally, but when stopped in traffic, it doesn't... correct?

Loose air conditioner component may break and

The only air conditioning component I can think of which could cause the serpentine belt to break would be the compressor. If you look under the hood you can see the belt winding around several pulleys of engine parts. The air condition compressor is the part which has two hoses with metal fittings and a wire harness attached to it. When the engine is on the pulley attached to the compressor should be rotating at the same speed as the other pulleys. Keep your hands, clothing and jewelry clear of all moving engine parts. If it is moving at the correct speed it is good, if it is not moving correctly it will cause the belt to slip creating friction until the belt breaks. Once the belt breaks the engine cooling, power steering and battery charging will stop, which will quickly cause the engine to stop working. This could cause engine damage, but it will defiantly strand you with a broken vehicle. If the pulley is working and the air conditioner is working, do not worry about it, but you may want to check the belt with the engine off for cracks or damage. If the belt is slipping and the air condition is not working, the vehicle will need a new compressor, coolant, and possibly a dryer. This could set you back about three hundred dollars. If you do not want to fix the air conditioning and the belt is not slipping run the vehicle as usual if the belt is good. If you do not want to fix the air conditioning and the belt is slipping you may be able to bypass the compressor and use a smaller belt.

Air Conditioner stops blowing cold air when vehicle is not moving

plus one on the cooling fan problem. if it was low on charge then as you slow down, condensor temps and line prressures would raise therefore it would cool at low speed and and not when moving since the incoming air would drop system temp, reducing line pressure and then cusing compressor to cycle. the auxillary cooling fans must be on whenever a/c is on, if not, thats your problem. get this taken care of because if you get stuck in traffic, your engine will overheat also if fans are not running

When i activate the air condition the engine meter, goes up and down.

The "Tachometer" is the gauge that indicates the engine RPM. It is not unusual for the idling RPM to drop slightly when the air conditioner comes on. The air conditioner represents a fairly large load on the engine so when it starts, the RPM will drop slightly. When driving, you'll probably not even notice that the air conditioning is a load on the engine unless you're accelerating uphill, pulling a trailer or passing another vehicle while the vehicle is fully loaded. At idle, the Envoy's computer should detect the falling RPM and make adjustments in fuel delivery to bring the RPM back up.

In any case, it shouldn't be cause for alarm, unless the air conditioner is stalling the engine. If this is the case, you are probably in need of service. The issue of low cooling from the air conditioner while idling in gear (as is the case when stopped in traffic, etc.) is correctable free of charge at the dealership on certain vehicles as a result of a recall. Your dealer can tell you if your vehicle is affected or if there is other recall work pending on your vehicle based on the VIN.

I hope this helps!
