If it is restarting immediately this is a throttle control module problem or MAP sensor problem possibly a lose connection. If you have to let it sit to cool down it is over heating, remove the thermostat when it cools down and see if that solves the problem.

They can test them at the dealer but won't if you carry it in. I was thinking more on this problem and with the everything you describe, I would do a timed test. Select a route and drive till the problem occurs. Wait till you can restart then time how long it is before the problem appears again and then one more time. If the times are pretty constant your problem most likely will not be either of these sensors. If the problem is constantly within the same time period I would look at the problem being the Fuel Pump. If the fuel pump develops a hot condition it will shutdown. Since the fuel pump is submerged it is hard to test when out of the vehicle. You do not want to test with anything but gas and that would put your hands in a bucket of fuel for a long period of time testing this. You wouldn't want to just outright replace the fuel pump as they are pretty expensive.

2002 Chevy suburban after driving for couple hours it losses power and I have to stop wait 20 minutes and then it goes again...what's the issue

The engine is overheating, check the anti-freeze level when cold, refill and repair the leaks. Check belts that drive the water pump.

Fuel Pump may be bad & stops at times

Will only get worse & you'll get stuck somewhere
if that is the issue

Then it could be any number of things that may take
some time to find & several shops until you find one that
can solve something

Questions, no problems. 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, 72,500 mileage. 1. Pros and cons of switching from regular oil to a synthetic (AMSOIL). Also which oil is better for the car during our heat wave of 100...

if you have the 3.1 liter engine than don't waste your money on synthetic. There are several known mechanical issues with that motor that synthetic will not help with. It will last just as long on conventional oil.

If you live in a part of the world that sees snow than synthetic will help with cold weather start ups.

If you have any oil leaks synthetic could make the leak worse or it could make it better.

Synthetic is of course more expensive. It does not mean you can run longer intervals between oil changes. If the engine is tight and efficient and extended service interval with synthetic oil is a possibility. If the engine has higher miles, starting to show signs of wear and is no longer as efficient or tight as it once was than extended services are not an option and may do more harm than good.

Interstate batteries are one of the best. Exide and NAPA brands would be the next on my list. Stay away from brands like energizer, werker, batteries plus.

Hello: I would check the fuel pressure when this occurs, this year model should have throttle body furl injection. 10 psi should be the nominal fuel pressure. Check the fuel filter. When it quits does it just shut off or does it sputter a little bit then quit, if it just quits it could be ignition, hei coil, module, pick up, check cap and rotor, rotor for a burn spot close to the distributor shaft

In my opinion it is caused by having too little gas in the tank. You are not suppose to run it it with that little gas anyways because it is bad for your car since all the contaminants can be sucked into the injectors and cause all kinds of problem.

Engine shutting down in extreme heat

Mine does the same thing as far as shutting down on long trips---usually 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I don't think it's's got something to do with antitheft system
