Often if you run out of petrol, you are pulling fuel from the very bottom of the tank. In doing so, you can pull in a lot of contaminants which settle to the bottom of the tank. With a car as old as a 1979, rust flakes can also accumulate in the tank. My guess is that this crud ended up in your fuel filter clogging it. Replace the fuel filter and try starting it again.

Something, somewhere is leaking. you are actually a fire hazard until you resolve the issue. There are systems to handle fuel vapors, and that may be an area to investigate also.

Removing a petrol tank from a vw t2 1973?

Get your hands on a Chilton/Haynes manual for this car. They tend to be rather detailed in explanation of how to do things, and have lots of pictures and diagrams. The 2 main safety things come first. Disconnect the battery and keep all open flame/spark at a far distance. And syphon the tank as empty as you can get it, if it has any petrol in it.

Vw golf 1996 cabrio 2.L ran out of petrol, i put 10 litres in and now it wont start

there most likely isn't enough fuel for the pump to pick up. Once a fuel tank runs dry it takes more fuel than usual to get the pump to send the fuel to the engine. Try a little more fuel, and if that doesn't work, let me know :D

The guide tube for the release cable has crumbled and loosing tension for the cable. Only way is pry it open using a spatula covered in some kind of tape so it won't ruin your paint.

Vw passat will not run

*Assuming everything ran fine prior to running out of petrol*, the most likely cause is air in your fuel lines or fuel injectors.

For a Volkswagen, the most sure fix is to have a Volkswagen mechanic inspect and maybe clean and prime your injectors. If you are handy enough, you could possibly do this yourself, but it can be quite hard.

Also, there are some additives that claim to be able to fix this in a bottle, but there efficacy is marginal at best.

Last, this problem can sometimes work itself out, though the process of waiting for the bubbles to clear (you may have to endure many quits by your engine) can be more than frustrating.

I hope this helps.
