Question about 1998 Chevrolet K1500

2 Answers

98 chevy 1500 5.7L will crank but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump kick on, replaced the fuel filter, crankshaft regulator, rotor, distributer cap, pcv valve, plugs, wires. I get a spark from the end of the wires. The fuel pump relay switch is good. There is gas in the hard line right at the throttle body. Took the hard line behind the fuel filter off, cranked it and gas came through. Had a computer hooked up and no codes were thrown. I don't know where to go from here. Help!

To eliminate the fuel problem, shoot some propane in the snorkle while cranking and ensure it wont fire up. make sure you clear flood mode it if ur plugs are wet from cranking or else you'll be chasing ur tail (crank with foot to floor on accelerator for 25 second, it shut the fuel injectors off and allows the cyl to clear of fuel) if its a no go on fireup then look at that spark again closely and make sure its strong. check it right at the coil and with a ground lead have someone crank it, spark should jump a good 3/4 inch to ur lead. if spark is good grab a noid light and check for injector pulse.

try the fuel pump relay or maybe a vacuum leak or pressure regulator, it''s a process of elimination. filter may be backwards, or just a fuse good luck

My truck did this after I replaced the fuel pump. Turned out to Fuel Pressure Regulator. It would crank and crank but never start. It's located underneath the black plastic manifold on the side of the injectors.

real comon starting problem for these is moisture in the cap and rotor and plug wires. replace cap, rotor, and wires. while you have the cap and rotor off check the two vent holles in the base of the distributer to see if the screens are plugged. be careful with the srews that hold the cap on the distibuters are plastic and will break.

Vehicle just keeps cranking wont start.

Make sure that your fuel presure is up to at least 60 psi if not that could be your problem. If not, make sure you are getting spark, if not could be your Crank sensor or ingniton module ECM. Usually if your Engine control module wouldn't be bad because of your fuel pump is working, but may not be putting out the proper pressure for the fuel system. Fuel Pumps are a Problem with that year..
