Question about Suzuki Swift

1 Answer

Hi I have a Zuzuki Alto (2002)Auto , I am the third owner and It has done 63,000KM`s. I bought it lats week , and found that sometimes the engine does not start, specially after a journey. Haven`t encountered the problem in the mornings so far. I have even changed the battery but the problem continues. I have tried battery to battery (from another car) but does not start. When i turn the ignition it does not "click" or give any sound. Only way to start is by turning the ignition and putting the gear from Parking position to nuetral. Is the problem with the starter motor or something else?

    My Mechanic Solved the issue.

Something I did not notice was that when the car does not start , the parking indicator (P) does not come on the dash board. That was the issue...
As the " P" does not come on, it means the gear shaft does not go to the correct "P" position. Infact if you move it a bit, the light may come. Then the car ignition also starts. My Mechanic had to adjust the inhibitor switch and now everything`s ok. All it took was little over half and hour.

Hi i bought 2002 nissan sentra ..previous owner replaced head gasket ,water pump.thermostat was running good for a week then sudeny no hot air inside(blows but cold) and 10 minutes later...

Thermostat is the wrong temperature range for the vehicle or it is installed backwards. It is opening too soon and not allowing the vehicle engine to come up to operating temperature soon enough. Have system checked, replace thermostat with correct temperature for vehicle

Black crud accumulates around the butterfly in the throttle body and also in the passages of the idle air bypass. The engine is designed to catch a low idle/ higher load condition (like A/C cycling) and adjust the air that is bypassed so it wont stall. This crud buildup restricts the normal amount of air that the computer is programmed to expect. The program in the computer uses other sensors to see what is actually happening like rpm and trys to adjust. This works until the buildup becomes too much for auto adjustment. Then the car dies at idle.

Removing the throttle body and carefully cleaning these will give the engine enough air to idle. Use a new gasket when re-installing.

Remember that electronic pieces on the throttle body (like the TPS) wont like the cleaner so do whats necessary to keep the spray solvent from entering these sensors.

I have a 1996 f-150 4x4 with a straight 6 auto. The previous owner had the trans rebuilt just before I bought it. Ever since I bought it the fluid looks like new but it shifts really hard from one gear to...

Hi John, Just wanted to throw you a few ideas so you can get a resolution. Sometimes people put in a part called a "shift kit". This has different size openings in the valve body of the Auto trans. It can cause a harder shift and is one possibility.

Next, the Mechanic who overhauled the Auto trans has to put on gauges for pressure readings when finishing the job. The Auto trans is basically a pump (Torque Converter) that pushes fluid under pressure to spin gears. There are different styles of Torque Converters which is a second possibility for your problem. The Mechanics' adjustment of the pressure is a third possibility of your problem.

You need to get the pressure of the Auto trans adjusted. Most of the time it involves using the pressure gauges I mentioned. The newer models of Electronically controlled transmissions can be done by just hooking up a small scanner-computer to adjust the shift. I do not know which type Auto trans you have.

If you are fortunate enough to have the old receipts from his trans job or if the Seller mentioned where he took the Vehicle you are in luck. The repair shop would have a copy of the Work order under the former owners name or the Vin# or owners address. Then you can get a parts list for what was installed inside the trans.

Thanks for using Fixya.
