1 Answer

I have a 1993 isuzu rodeo 3.2l. It has set without running for about a year now. when i try to start it, it will not start. i tested the fuel line and it has withinn the specks, i have changed the crank sensor, and still the same problem. i tried running starter fluid in the car and it does not work. I have heard ecu's have a saftey fault that will not let the car run, but my question is why isent it, and how to reset it

Before you do any of this resetting or anything, there are 3 things you need to check for first.
1. does the vehicle have spark ? remove each spark plug wire and test for a spark.
2. does engine have compression ? check each cylinder for proper compression with a tester, should be at least 125 psi. per cylinder.
3. check for fuel, remove each spark plug, is the plug wet ? If the plug is wet, you have fuel, if dry, you have no fuel.

Diagrams of the fuel line system on a 1999 Isuzu rodeo

the whole system. end to end,
which engine, and in what country? USA , Canada. or the Austrialian Holden Rodeo.>??
we cant guess engines here, we beg but only 1 in 10,000 say it.
making any answers wrong. or wild guessing.

if in USA are you has this. why not read it.
or buy the FSM book, and read that...
working book free, is hard, like super hard for any DIY work..

if MPI system, all have this year range (early)
a loop system.
there is no need for a diagram unless the car was bought as a basket case with missing parts. is it?
its just 2 pipes. one from tank to the fuel rail,
then the FPR returns the fuel to the tank.
a simple loop. (later in USA the EPA banned this loop, end story that)
there are like 6 to 8 pressure test on any MPI loop system.
did you read the FSM on that? its covered.

cranking pressure
running pressure
wot pressure (fpr tests) wide open throttle.
leak down tests (time to leak down)
shut test. (block return line)
injector balance tests.
and i do 3 FPR vacuum/pressure tests.... on all.....

each are vital tests to finding problems.

4 engines , just in USA>
not one stated.....

My Isuzu rodeo will not start,,tries to turn over , but wont..gets fire, get gas..just will not start.

If the spark to all plugs is healthy and that spark coincides with the introduction of the fuel then it should start. Is it catching at all when being turned over
Have you had the timing checked?
Is the fuel pressure good?
I would....personally speaking, perform a compression check and, if that proved okay, I would have an OBD scan to check for error s then go from there

Check your Fuel Lines and your Fuel Pump. (I just fixed a problem with my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo Fuel Return Line).

Also remember that in Rodeos, as soon as you turn your car key to turn the ignition on (just to make the dashboard lights go on) a certain amount of gasoline gets pumped to your engine in preparation of you turning the key all the way to crank the ignition and start the car. In other words, even before you turn the key all the way to crank the ignition, the Fuel Pump will pump some gasoline through the Fuel Lines to your engine (it will pump the gasoline for about 4 seconds then stop). So when you go to start your Rodeo, remember to turn the key with one continuos motion so that you start the ignition cranking while the gasoline is being actively pumped.

In addition, you should never turn the ignition lights on without turning the key all the way to start the engine. Doing so could cause that bit of gasoline that was pumped to start the engine to just sit there and create problems.

93 isuzu rodeo with 3.2 engine cuts off when you give it gas

Vehicles need fuel, spark, and air to run. You started with the basics like spark and fuel, great. Slow down on the parts installations and take yourself back to basics.

1. Check your fuel lines for leaks.
2. Inspect the vacuum lines for cracks ( you stated it got cold outside. This may contribute to old hard lines cracking).
3. Remove the air filter box and filter and make sure airflow is free of any blockage. Test car without air filter installed and see if it stays running while giving gas. If it does replace air filter
4. Check the throttle body Mass Air Flow Sensor. This detects how much air is coming into the system. It reports to the main computer. If the MAF tells the computer there is significantly not enough air the the system will shut down. My guess would be a big vacuum leak or you have a bad MAF.
