Locate the filter under the drivers door area. You will need the Ford quick disconnect removal tool(small round spring release button type tool) These hose removal tools are available at a parts store, You can get the "set" for around $20.00. A must have for the do it your selfer. When you have the tool insert the nose of the tool into the coupler on the end of the tube. (there may be a plastic retainer clip to remove first on the tank side of the filter, and a metal clip on the engine side.) When the tool is in place press toward the hose which you are removing and the coupler should dis-engage from the line. You may have to pull hard, and twist it a bit. The tool releases the push to connect mechanism inside to allow the hose to be removed.

SOURCE: 1990 deville, replaced ecm, fuel pump, filters,

I had same problem in my 90 deville. Drove myself crazy, I replaced the sending unit in the tank with a new fuel pump. I also had to replace the fuel pressure regulator, which sits behind the rail system. It worked for me.

The high pressure fuel line clips are tricky you must use a small straight slot screwdriver to pry the hidden flange tab out and away, you should be able to pry it gentle from the side in order to slide the U type clip out and away from its seat. It is difficult for me to show you with out an illustration so I can only verbal descibe the best I can to you . You may want to purchase a Haynse repair manual which has illustrations showing how.

Check the inertia switch (refer to owners manual for it's location). Also check the fuel pump relay.

Catalytic converter/s. Did you replace the fuel filter also? If not, replace it. Not the problem though.

What would cause a 1990 Ford ranger to fire but not start?

Check to be sure you are getting fuel to the fuel rail. The fuel filter could be stopped up. Also I would check the nertia switch to be sure it has gotten turned off. This switch is the fuel shut off switch.

1990 Ranger 2.9 runs pretty well until you shut it off and try to start it back. Smells like it is not getting fuel(real lean). Fuel pump and filter are new. What holds pressure to the fuel rail when off?...

nothing really except sometimes your fuel lines. you should have replaced the fuel filter when you replaced the pump so your pump lasts a lil longer. a clogged filter overloads the pump

Fuel filter installation on 1990 ford ranger xlt

It's on the driver side just behind the door. You need a special tool to pull the lines off of the existing filter. It seems to be a cheap simple tool. it slips over the line then you push toward the filter, it will click then you can pull the line off. Just pull the lines then replace with the new filter. The truck will start funny at first because it will be deprived of gas for a moment but then it should be fine.

1990 ford ranger xlt has no power

When was last tune-up/service, and fuel filter changed? Plugged exhaust may come in to play here as well, depending on what else has been checked.

Fuel line needs to be replaced but it's an obsolete part that I can't find anywhere. Can someone help me locate one for my 1990 ranger. I'm looking for the line that goes from the fuel filter up.

Here is a shot in the dark. I am not familiar with how this line is made, but you may be able to take the old one to a parts house that makes up lines, and make you a new one. Just a suggestion, but it may work.
