Question about 2004 Ford Freestar

Open Question

My 2004 freestar is having trouble with the alarm system. We replaced the battery in the remote and still it continues to alarm anytime you open a door, push the lock or unlock button, and other times just when the car has been just sitting. I'm trying to just disable it by pulling the fuse or disconnecting the horn. Any suggestions?

If it is an aftermarket alarm, find the alarm module under the dash or under the hood and unplug it.

Try re-setting the computer...Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and leave off for 5-10 minutes. This will allow the computer to reset. The charger may have interupted the signal or something.

SOURCE: Intermittently, an interior

this is in fact, part of your factory alarm... called PATS (passive anti theft system)

The actual "horn" should be coming from the rear right side of the cabin or behind the dash

This horn is built into the "computer" and there is little you can do at this point other than going to the dealer.

The dealer should be able to reprogram the modules in question to eliminate the "horn"

My 2004 c240 Merc alarm sounds when i open door,I cannot stop alarm with remote or unlock door with remote, but locks fine with remote,I have replaced remote batteries no change,Once locked with remote

My best guess is that the remote is going bad or the receiver sensor in your car is getting goofy. But my money is on the remote itself. It's been used and banged around for 10 years and the inner workings just plain wear out. Just found out the average life span of a tv/cable DVR box is 2-3 years.

My remote entry keypad that controls the alarm system is not working right. I replaced the battery but my car will not start. I also recently replaced the car battery. Thanks. JEA Nampa, ID

anytime you disconnect the battery for the car or for the remotes you will have to reset the system,i am sorry, but thankfully we dont have the same alarm system in the U.K. so you will, have to check your manual...

I have a 2004 Ford Freestar that the remote stopped working all of the sudden. I have replaced the battery and still nothing. Any ideas?

open the remote and spray off the electronics with tuner cleaner from radio shack and leave open over night. reassemble the next day and see if it works. you may need to reset the car to it by following the instructions in the manual. very easy though

I ignored the alarm in my 2004 Saturn when it went off. From that point on I cannot use my remote to open the trunk, have to use the key. Is it the alarm system or replacing a fuse?

It maybe both. If the alarm is built into the ECM you can try disconnecting the Negetive battery terminal to reset the ECM. Make sure all the fuses are good for the alarm and for the trunk release. If the alram is not incorporated in the ECM remove the in-line fuse from the power line of the alarm to reset the alarm. This should resolve the problem if the problem is the alarm and not the release.

Just replaced battery on 2005 tundra, how do I reset the vehicle alarm. The alarm now sounds whenever I open the doors.

Anytime the alarm sounds when opening the door with the key, get into the truck anyway, place the key into the ignition key switch and turn it on and off 2 times. The horn will stop blowing and the lights will stop flashing. You're ready to go.......

The computer detected a fault. You SHOULD NOT drive it around with that blinking, or you will regret it. Take it to the dealership immediately and have them pull the code.
