In all my years as a technical advisor for schools ive never heard of a knocking noise from a distributor.the problem is elsewhere .adrian,,,,,,,,,,

When i turn on my 04 taurus. It starts makin knock sound , i replaced my lower intake n i think i missplaced the spark plug wiring


If the spark plug wiring is not correct, the engine will misfire and that will create erratic combustion, which is a shock to the cylinder, which results in a load harsh noise. Locate the number 1 spark plug wire on the distributor cap and trace each wire to the spark plugs. The firing order will be listed on the intake manifold. Make the correct wire to spark plugs attachments as needed.

I have changed my distributor on my rialto 2 car and at medium revs whilst driving it sounds like a bag of nails tried to turn the distributor left to wright it does queten down but still make noise


the noise is most probably detonation of uncontrolled combustion of the mixture in the cylinders
The ignition timing should be no more than 10-12 degrees BTDC

If you have described the noise accurately, it occurs mostly on acceleration or when the engine is under load
it is from wrong timing or lean fuel/air mixture or incorrect fuel rating used for the engine ( octane rated at 89 instead of 92 +)
big end bearings start as a knock and gets worse with idle and acceleration

I changed my distributor,cap,rotor in my 97 k1500 350 vortex, when i finished now it sounds like a lil knocking noise,do i need to redue my distributor again or is it my timing? ?


Are you sure you have the cap down correctly and all 4 anchor points engaged? I have seen (and heard) GM caps that only had 3 of the 4 correctly locked down and the rotor was hitting the inside of the cap making a ticking noise. Take the cap off and inspect the inside, look to see if it shows marks from the rotor. If that is all ok than yes, it could be that your timing is off. You can also hear "ticking" if you have a crack in the sparkplug wire; the spark from it to metal does make a ticking noise; so inspect your wires also if they are over 5 years old.

Well if you done the motor and you havent timed it correctly then you will get a knocking noise and dependens on the motor then yes it could bend the push rods or tight tappets or out of timing the valves can bend,hole in pistons bent rockergear etc.
But depends on the motor if you time it with number 1 piston is TDC number 1 and last valves rocking [depending on how many cylinders you have 4 /6/ etc and set distributor firing No 1

V6 engine knocking and squeaking noise


check for play in the distributor sometimes the slop will make the pick up window under the cap will hit the distributor cap , the squeaking noise may be your belt or tensioner pulley bearing the knock can also come from a bad tensioner as well .

Distributor vibrated loose ,lost spark ,wont start how do i fix ?The distributor just turns loosely in the engine the bolts that hold it in place vibrated loose


easy to sort out ,turn engine around so timing mark on front pulley lines up ,then take the cap off distributor and make sure the rotor arm points at no1 lead on the distributor cap ,tighten distributor ,if it doesnt start then slacken it off again and turn engine around one turn till the marks line up again and repeat the rotor at no1 lead and start engine ,then move distributor around a bit till revs increase then back it back a bit and it will be right ,if engine pinks of gives off a knocking sound on acceleration then back it off a fraction till the noise stops then it will be perfect ,or as perfect as you will get it without a timing light ,

The motor is making a knockin sound


A knocking (or sometimes pinging) is a result of insufficiently burned fuel in the cylinders. This can be from bad fuel or from fouled plugs, to bad wiring or bad electrical contact at the distributor.

If the knocking is not this, but a repetitive striking noise, then you will have to locate the area the noise is coming from and try to identify it. Sorry can't be more of a help, this really is a person to car diagnosis.

Car jerks with loud knock when shifting from park to drive


Ok the knock is your flex discs on the drive shaft are bad along with the carrier bearing. Replace before you get stranded or it comes loose.
Fuel distributor may need work if it is hard to start when warm, Replace OVP relay by battery also, its always an issue.

Valve knocks when running reaches 1500 rpm


First, nothing you have done has anything to do with valve tappet noise. What is your oil pressure? Have you positively identified the noise as a lifter (tappet), OR COULD IT BE AN ENGINE BERARING OR WRISTPIN? Other than tearing it down and replacing lifters, rockers or pushrods or possibly even the cam, if oil pressure is good, change the oil and put a quart of Marvel oil in there. If that does not clear it up in a few days, you will have to go inside the engine. You likely have over 160k on that engine...consider using a replacement. Get an older tech to listen to it...it takes years to be able to differentiate between different component noises with any accuracy.
Personally, without hearing it myself, I'm betting it's a rod knock.
