Why does my 2003 Silverado HD engine get hot when i'm backing up,even a small load on my trailer

Let me ask a question just so I that I make sure I understand.. The engine gets hot when you are backing up and only when you have a trailer hooked up .. Am I understanding this correctly? If it only does that when you have a trailer hooked up, then my suspicion is that it has something to do with how your truck is wired for a trailer and I would have someone check it out. Now if it overheats in reverse anytime you drive it .. Has your coolant levels been low anytime recently? When it starts to get hot try running your heater at full blast to see if it starts to bring the temperature back down. If it does then it is not going to be anything with the wiring. Have you noticed any moisture at all on the passenger side floorboard in the cab of the truck? Has your temperature needle actually hit the red area on the gauge at all that you can think since the last time your truck was serviced? If it has you probably need a new thermostat because once it has overheated the thermostat often no longer opens and closes properly and at the times that it needs to and sometimes they eventually get suck and many times running the heater at full blast will get it unstuck but either way running the heater full blast helps to draw the heat away from the engine helping to cool it down

Knocking sound when engine is hot

Sounds like car has been overheated and has a collapsed piston skirt. This will cause piston slap until piston heat up and expand.-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Transmission stuck in reverse. Cannot move shift lever to any other gear selections. Cannot move lever to Park, hence, cannot start engine

First, get under the truck (chock the tires and set emergency brake) and check the linkage. It's possible it came loose. If it's not or does not appear to be broken, put it into place (for the gear of reverse, should go right into place; if it is off); and then use the shifter inside to set in park.
If it is not off, try pushing the lever (under the truck) into the park postion (should be back - toward rear of truck).
If you cannot move this by hand (you should be able to) then the next step is to check your ****** fluid level. Now remember, generally you would do this while it is hot, but considering the given circumstance, you'll merely check to see if there is any reading. Now, on newer vehicles, for transmissions, there should be a "hot" level, and a "cold" level, so that you can check it while it's cold. Do this, and add appropriate amount of fluid if it's low.
If it's full (check a few times to get the same or close to the same reading multiple times). If you are convinced it's full, contact the dealer or a transmission mechanic and inquire further with them as to the exact problem.
Please let me know if you need furthera assistance.

Check the fluid level in the trans. With the engine hot, truck idling in park, make sure the fluid reaches the "HOT" range on the trans dip stick and it is bright red and doesn't smell burnt.
