Hi!!

The neutral safety switch is not part of the break light circuit, is part of hte reverse lights circuit.

Here is a picture of the switch, is located under the dash on top of the steering column. Cost $25 available at most autopart stores.

where to find a automatic - c8532be.jpg This is the StopLight switch $15 available at most autoparts stores.
This switch is located on top of brake pedal and is hot at all times, when you press the brake pedal, the lights should come on, it does not matter if the key is On or Off.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this port!!

Would a bad break pedal switch aslo keep me from starting it at times..mazda cx5 2015....

It could if you have an automatic transmission! Most cars with automatic transmission want you to press the break to start if the switch is broken it's not letting the starter start the motor cuz it doesn't think you are on the break! Good luck hope this helps

Where is the neutral switch located on a 1994 suzuki swift manual transmission auto

like most m/t ,its on top of the transmission.
that is because it needs to sense the SHIFT rails there.
and takes flash light to see under car.
but usually there is no neutral switch,
only reverse. for backup lamps
why not post what dont work right first?

automatics have PRNDL, and many switches for many reasons

the stick shift has clutch switch, this is the functional , same part
so car cant move in gear cranking....

C3 automatic keeps stopping. Is it the eco mode?

That sensor is built into the neutral safety switch/range selector switch. I don't work on yours, but most those switches are mounted on the transmission under the shift cable..

Abs light on wont shift out of park

Hi Judy , what kind of vehicle do you have ? Year an model ? ABS light has nothing to do with it not coming out of park . Problem with automatic transmission shift lock control ! Probably !
The automatic transmission shift lock control is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the ignition is ON. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
?€¢
The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid.

?€¢
The automatic transmission shift lock control switch.

?€¢
The park/neutral safety switch.

With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The park/neutral safety switch provides a path to ground for the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid in the PARK position. This energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid, mechanically locking the shift linkage in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, causing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid to de-energize. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position. When the shift lever is out of the PARK position the contacts in the neutral safety switch open and the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is de-energized.

Is the back up switch connected to the shifting linkage of the automatic transmission on my 1988 ford bronco II

If you have the C5 trans, here is the info:

C5 Transmission
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the downshift linkage rod from the transmission downshift lever.
  4. Apply rust penetrant to the outer lever attaching nut to prevent breaking the inner lever shaft. Remove the transmission downshift outer lever attaching nut and lever.
  5. Remove the two neutral start switch retaining bolts.
  6. Disconnect the multiple wire connector.
  7. Remove the neutral start switch from the transmission.

To install:

  1. Install the neutral start switch on the transmission. Install the two retaining bolts.
  2. Adjust the neutral safety switch following the above procedure.
  3. Install the outer downshift lever and retaining nut, and tighten the nut. Install the downshift linkage rod with the retaining clips.
  4. Connect the wire multiple connector. Check the operation of the switch. The engine should start only with the transmission selector lever in N or P.

If it is the:
C3 And A4ld Transmissions
It's on the transmission....

Reverse light dont work lights are good

The switch detecting the reverse position of the gear stick may be faulty. If you have automatic transmission the switch is under the transmission lever console as part of the neutral safety switch assembly.

HOW TO SYNCHRONIZE BACKUP LIGHTS WITH REVERSE GEAR ON 1996 JEEP C

The neutral safety switch can be adjusted to make this work. (loosen it and turn , then lock it down. This changes neutral start position as well so make sure both work when you're finished! Switch is on right side of trans. Switch is about $220 so don't break it!
