Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Have a 1991 honda accord. I will be driving along and the speedometer stops working, and shortly, the check engine light comes on. After I drive a mile or two, the speedometer starts back working, but the check engine light stays on. When I kill my car and restart it, the check engine light is not on.

Scan the computer for the trouble code that the check engine light may have registered. Maybe that will point to the problem. What is the green s light for?

I just replaced my clutch, and in doing so I had to disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission housing. I obviously didn't re-install the speedometer cable correctly because it doesn't work...

No, there is no threat to your engine, because it does not have anything to do with anything mechanical. you might have a broken speedometer cable. The check engine light is a different issue. I would recommend taking it to a shop and have it scanned for any issues relating to the light being on.

99 Honda Accord EX V6 check engine light comes on and blinks ten times when I start the car along with the SRS light being on for a short period of time. The other problem has been the car shutting off...

Your vehicle may be part of a 2002 honda/acura recall. Faulty ignition switch!! Typical symptoms are: Random stalls, hard start, no spark, power loss (symptoms progress in hotter weather). When the vehicle stalls/shuts off while in motion, usually the speedometer drops to "0" while in motion. Some warning light not lit when ignition is set to "on" (chk engine/ABS/Brake etc.). Call your local dealer with your VIN# on hand and check if your vehicle is part of the recall. Refer to faulty ignition switches, affected years (1998-2002 models), accords/preludes/pilot/Odyssey/Civic/CR-V and various Acura models.

'91 Honda Accord LX transmission light on.

You say "standard transmission?" Do you mean "standard" as in "manual/5 spd./'stick-shift'?" transmission?

Either way, if you replaced the alternator belt and the battery light went away and the car doesn't sputter or stop, then it's the "speed sensor" on the transmission itself. The car will still drive, but the speedometer cannot read how fast the car is going (in RPM's as well).

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
