I think you have a battery problem, the newer type of sealed batteries fail in just this way, have seen it a 100 times, same complaint as yours, so have the battery tested, I think either the battery cables are corroded or the battery is defective. My experience? 35 years as a Dealer tech for Ford.

the the next step is to have the Ford dealer hook up a factory scanner and see what system is causing this problem, without this diagnoistic tool u are flying blind, to many things can cause this to start guessing.

2006 Ford focus zx4 St..replaces the alternator last night car ran fine all day I came home for lunch and then I went to leave to go back to work about 35 min later and the car would not start wouldn't...

Make sure battery has a full charge. With everything off, use digital multimeter leads across battery posts, the generic spec is around 12.6 volts. Leave the leads hooked up, have helper turn key to crank, what is the reading? If the circuit is closed to the starter, shouldn't drop below 9.6 volts, some makes and models, it shouldn't drop below 10 volts. You get the picture, if drops way low, that won't work.
I'd have to check generator output and battery.

Car will not crank and the timing chain is fine

Well, that's good, but even if the chain was broke, the starter would still be tryiing to start the car. Since your starter wont crank the engine over, your start circuit has a malfunction. Possibly the starter went out, so you need to have that tested for a malfunction. A simple test of part of the circuit is to turn the key to on.. Now your dash warnimg lights (oil, alternator, and check engine light) should be on. Are they on, and your gauges working? If not you have lost power to the ignition switch, so check your battery connections. If the key switch turns the dash on, then turn key to start. Do you hear a click from the engine area? If not, have the starter checked. If you do hear a click, or several clicks, then power from the switch is causing that click, probably at the starter. Turn the headlights on and observe them. Are they bright? If not, charge the battery up. If they are bright, watch them while a helper turns the key to start. If the lights go dim in start, probably a bad starter. If the lights don't dim, it could be a bad connection somewhere, like the battery or starter. Good luck

I have a 2000 sl1. It started up fine, ran fine, went got gas then to the store came out and the car wouldn't start or crank. Headlights are bright and they stay that way when i turn the key. This leads me...

if the lamps stay bright, and you hear a click from the starter, then it is alsomst certainly the starter that is at fault. the click is probably from the solenoid on the starter. it could be a faulty feed wire, faulty contacts on the solenoid, or most likely is worn brushes on the starter.

check the wires going to the starter, and if they look ok, remove the starter and check the brushes.

I have a 2000 ford focus with a manual transmition and zetec motor I turn the key and everything lights up but the engine doesnt turn I had it push started and it ran fine I changed the starter and it...

Check for bad grounds, start with the starter ground. Do you even get a click when trying to start? If not then the starter is getting no power and check your hot lead to the starter also. Make sure the battery terminals are cleaned well.

2000 focus zts. Battery is good so is starter. Went to start and all I get is a clicking sound.

What do you mean the battery is good, and so is the starter? Did you have them tested? What kind of clicking sound? Is it a single click when you turn the key or multiple clicks as long as you hold the key in the start position? Have you checked for voltage at the large post on the starter? There should be 12V. If not, you have a break in your supply line. It could be a bad fuse/fusible link.

Car won't start focus is clicking

I wonder if your battery is really in an excellent shape. The way you described seem to be non sufficient voltage for the starter solenoid to engage completely. Make a quick observaton by leaving the headlight on while cranking the engine. If no significant drop on the headlight brightness. Then your battery is assumed to be good. (a cold crank voltage shouldn't below 10V) Then the remained items to work with is either the solenoid or the starter or both. I believe the solenoid is piggy pack on the starter. Most autopart stores would test it for free of charge.

Have power but when i turn key i get nothing. no click,no starter???

I had a similiar problem, I had a bad sensor at the back of the engine, it was connected by 2 hoses to the EGR pick up tube.
I unplugged the sensor and the car started, I drove it to the parts store and replaced the part and it ran great after.
