Question about 1994 Nissan Altima

2 Answers

Well, i have a 1994 Nissan altima and a few years ago it started having a weird problem during the summer(s) while my mother owned it. The car will crank with no problem, but once you put it in drive or reverse, it starts to **** somewhat violently (and that's without applyin gas). But if you try to apply gas it will take one hard **** in whatever gear im in and just shut off (although the power and cd,etc. still work). This only seems to happen in 80,85+ degree weather, but never happens in the winter or in cooler weather. We've changed the alternator, trans. fluid, given it a basic tune-up. Furthermore, anytime we take it to the dealer, the problem obviously can't be re-created and most mechanics argue that the car should work BETTER in the heat...so what could cause my car to just shut off in the heat for the last 4 or 5 years? (note: the problem doesn't occur if the car is left in shade, only when left in the hot sun)

Sounds like it is slightly over fuelling. This is less to not noticable on cooler days. Replace the part that alters the fuelling via temprature. This is a small sensor by on in the thermostat housing known as an Engine Management Temprature Sensor. Very cheap, easy DiY that makes a huge
difference.

Also, try starting the car with the gas cap off, if improvement it could be an Evap or gas vent issue.

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Lloyd

I'd start by looking at electronic modules, such as the coils and ignition components.

Heat usually affects them in such a way that things like this will happen intermittently.

My 1997 Nissan Altima doesn't like to start, but when it does, it runs fine. Would this be a distributor cap?

not a distributor cap problem as any problems there results in misfiring, no start at all, back firing etc
have the fault codes read for a electronic sensor fault
( maf/vaf / baro /ambient temp sensors etc)

My 94 Nissan is stalling at Stops, & then take a while to start up again?

remove the ignition control module on top of mass air flow sensor, apply heat sink to transistor, and reinstall then change spark plugs, wires, distributor cap,and rotor, remove air intake, and clean out throttle body port with carbon cleaner, check ignition coil for lump(defective) and check pcv valve to see if it's stuck wich is located on a breather seperator on top of the idle air control valve......also,check 75 amp fusible link for battery under hood on drivers side...........in the same compartment, look for the 10 amp fuse to the alternator..........follow these instructions, and your car will run excellent.....nissan altima master 1993-1997 10 years owning a 1994 altima............been there done that.................it does not get any better than that trust me..........total money to spend should be about $120.00 dollars...........peace..........

2001 Nissan Altima shuts off in hot weather

it is the cam position sensor...the telltale sign of the failure is that it happens when the vehicle is warm and has been driven for a while. Sensor is about 40 bucks at the auto parts store, make sure the replacement sensor is metal, not plastic.
The main symptoms of this sensor failing are rough starts, rough idling and not starting at all especially when warm.

Nissan Altima not reversing sometimes

good day;
When was the transmission fluid and filter changed last? Could be that the fluid is dirty and the valve for the reverse gear is blocked. Let me know how you make out.

Cheers.
