Disconnecting the battery might reset the check engine light on your car. However, keep in mind the following:

- not all cars will clear the code after disconnecting the battery
- some problems, if not repaired in time may cause a serious damage and more costly repair.
- the radio, if code-protected, may be locked after disconnecting the battery
- the "check engine" light will come back anyway if the problem still exists.

But by all means try disconnecting the battery (for at least 1 minute) first.

What causes a rough idle on a 2003 Nissan Sentra Spec-V? Car otherwise runs fine while driving.

The rough idle is associated with the p011 code. The P011 code is: Camshaft A over advanced. There is a mechanical fault with the intake camshaft.
You need to take the car into a mechanic, preferably the dealer since they have all of the needed special tools, to properly diagnose and repair the issue.

Note - not a solution..just adding my woes!
I drive a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V.
My car suddenly stalled 1 day and the engine wouldn\'t turn over. Brought it to my mechanic and had the Camshaft position sensor replaced by my mechanic. The car ran fine for about 2 weeks and then the light was back on with the initial symptoms.

Took the car into the dealership and they diagnosed it again as P0335. Said that the mechanic hadn\'t installed the sensor correctly. Charged me a bunch of money to replace the thing and not too long ago the check engine light is on. The Revs bounce around everywhere. Checked the code again and it\'s P0335 yet again! Am in talks with the dealership to get to the bottom of this...

no their mistakes could not have led to the issue. just their bad diagnostics missed it to begin with. the dealers do not always have the most competent shop. i would usually tell people to stay away from them and use the other shops around. you are not the first that i have heard with problems they cannot diagnose. go get a second opinion from another certified shop.

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S and the engine light came on and indicated a misfire #2 cylinder (Auto Zone check). I took it to the dealership I purchased it from new. They insisted on replacing my...

Yes, I have a solution - an immediate recall or, failing that, a class-action suit. I leased a 2005 1.8L Sentra new from the dealership. It came with a 5-year/100,000K "bumper to bumper warranty." Today - April 2010 - it has just under 66,000Kms. on it. The car has been consistently maintained by reputable mechanics. For the last 2 1/2 years, the check engine light has gone on and off. Starting became rough. Code 4 was diagnosed but all "fixes" did not cure it. Car began starting rough and eventually would not start. Dealership service denied it was an engine problem. December 2009, I was persuaded that buying out the lease was cheaper than buying new. Stupid me. In less than 14 months, I've spent just over $1,000 on "fixes" and the damn thing is still acting up. Last tow and service cost about $250 and three days later the CEL came on again. It's only a matter of time before the head gasket goes and that'll cost $1,500-$2,000! The car is a hopeless lemon. AND I'm sure the dealership knows it because when I was processing the buyout in the showroom, and mentioned the CEL, service said, "Oh, your coolant is probably low. We'll top it up for you." Yeah, top it up and avoid doing the gasket...And now, since I've taken a look at the Auto Beef site, I know I was "had" - and there's a word for that.
