Question about 2005 Cadillac SRX

1 Answer

Most of the time, when i start the car the TC light comes one and then the battery light comes on and a message pops up that says Engine Power Reduced and the car goes into idle. Other times it starts up fine but when your driving the lights and message pops up again and the car shuts off/ goes into idle. we have replaced the TPS (?) sensor which we thought would fix the problem but it continues...we need help!

I'm not sure if these are the code you need but i got them from advance auto
    p0223
    p2135
    p2119
    p2176
they said it had to do with the throttle sensor but we just replaced it so i don't know whats goin on... i guess i'm gonna have to kiss my money goodbye and just take it to the dealer, which has already screwed us over once!

HI. This will be an electrical issue with the engine CPU. You are essentially flying blind without the codes that are present and they need to be extracted with a proper GM certified scan tool device. The TC(traction control) light and Battery light are a strong indication of a weak battery or TCM module damage. That will be the first initial diagnosis, but with that said; Your engine CPU is actually initiating limp mode as well. This will occur if there are major sensor malfunctions present within the engine assembly. Limp mode is basically triggered when these symptoms exist with this particular vehicle. It is induced to protect the engine from further damage. It will shutdown certain cylinders down to reduce HP.

This vehicle will need the services of a competent mechanics or a certified GM dealership. The codes must be pulled, asap. If you have the codes now, please post them so that i may analyze them and provide proper direction.

Ok, I cant understand why the mechanic did not pick this up, but here is basically the issue here. This is a Electronic Throttle Control System fault. The Electric Throttle Control System (ETCS) is composed of a throttle motor that operates the throttle valve,a throttle position sensor that detects the opening angle of the throttle valve, an accelerator pedal position sensor that detects the accelerator pedal position, and the ECM(Engine Computer) that controls the ETCS system. The ECM operates the throttle motor to position the throttle valve for proper response to driver inputs. The throttle position sensor, mounted on the throttle body, detects the opening angle of the throttle valve and provides this signal to the ECM so that the ECM can regulate the throttle motor. The actual motor could be the culprit, but intensive testing will be needed to rule out any ECM issues, as well as, any broken wiring t the throttle body and sensors that make up the assembly. In a worst case scenario, you will need to replace the entire throttle body. I recommend to take your vehicle to a certified competent Cadillac service station. The ECM circuits must be tested along with the throttle sensor(s) harnesses and connectors for shorts and grounding issues. This is the reason for the limp mode. The ECM cant regulate the throttle body properly. The TPS is fine. this is more serious and will encompass the entire throttle body assembly and ETCS system. The ignition switch should be tested for over voltage as well.

The dealer will probably try to replace the engine computer. This is
common practice and very expensive. It is rarely the CPU, but they will
replace it first. If they have competent techs on hand, they should test
the motor and throttle body components to be sure of the integrity of
the TB motor and its supporting sensors. I suspect that the TB motor has a
very serious short in it or the wiring at the TB has shorted or broken
into fragments, slightly connected but loose and inducing interment
    issues.

1998 corvette will not start says reduced power

If the security light is blinking it will not start. The security system needs to be reset. You will have to have a fully charged battery to reset the system. With a full charged battery turn the ignition forward until the warning lights come on and leave the key in the on position for 15min. Turn key off and wait 10sec. then try and start. You may have to perform this procedure a couple of times, however, it is usually successful the first try. The reduced power light can be set by a low voltage/poor charge battery

Stability system disabled light on no power

The stability system is software programmed into the ABS - antilock brake control module also the PCM - engine computer . service engine light DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop or the dealer . You don't have the diagnostic equipment or knowledge to tackle this type of problem .

Trac light is comin on what does this mean

The car is OK. If you have the traction control (TC) warning pop up it means there is a fault in the traction control system . The traction control on the car will now be disabled.

The most likley cause is a failed or faulty wheel sensor. These are the sensors which detect if a wheel is losing traction and the TC system will apply braking multiple times to slow the wheel speed to retain grip.

It is a good safety feature but you can still drive your car around without the TC system operating. There should be a TC switch on your model to turn the TC on and off manually. When switched off manually, a TC off message should pop up on the dash.

Reduced engine power light, Engine light and Traction control system warning light are all on

Yeah I have the same problem. The Check Engine, Reduced Engine Power Light and TC Control Light are all on at the same time. It will go off by itself after a few days and then comes back on. I've tried disconnecting the battery and that has worked in the past but this time it is not working. Anybody have any suggestions?

1999 Crown turned ignition switch to start - heard pop - no electrical power

If nothing works including the lights, something happened between the battery and the fuse box.
There are some fuseable links between the battery and the starter solenoid or between the solenoid and the fuse box.
I'd start with the battery cables and look for those fuseable link wires.

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU LS.MY TC LIGHT IS ON AND THERE IS A MESSAGE READING ON MY RADIO THAT SAYS (ENGINE POWER REDUCED.AND SO YOU KNOW I ACCIDENTALLY LEFT MY CAR WINDOWS DOWN LAST NIGHT SO THE INSIDE...

Hi Andrew, TC I believe is 'traction control'. I don't know for sure why the management system would read 'engine power reduced' and would suggest a visit to your dealer, to have a diagnostic scan carried out. It could very well be that moisture has contaminated the electronics.Regards Johngee10

Service engine soon, SLIP, TC OFF LIGHTS ON

I had the same indications on My 2000 Maxima but the engine was also running rough . I replaced the number 3 cylinder ignition module and all of the spark plugs and all of the error lights are back to normal I had to reset the check engine light by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes.By the way my car has 253,000 miles on it so if you have a lot of miles on your car you might want to check all of the ignition modules so pull your spark plugs and read them they might tell you where your problem is .

Dont be worried at all. The battery temp sensor isnt very important, most cars dont even have them. The only thing is you will have that light on. Good luck!!
