My 1990 Mitsubishi Montero Sport will crank but will not start. I tried to use starting fluid through the air filter shaft but the car still won't start. The car has been stalling before when I am idle and I have a oil leak. Could this be the problem?

Given the year of the Montero I expect the ECU has failed or the component within the distributor which tells the ECU when to send a spark. Check for spark or fuel injector pulse. To check fuel injector pulse rent NOID lights from auto parts store. If no pulse I expect the Distributor if no fuel I expect the ECU

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.5 4x4 and was driving and it just died it will turn over but not start.its not the fuel pump or the fuel filter.and not the fuel relay.so what else could it be...

Have you tried reading out the engine codes? They'll save you a lot of time chasing non-issues. Does it act like it has normal compression when you turn the starter, or does it spin more freely than usual? If there is no compression, the timing belt, chain or gear is probably broken.

My 1990 montero will tun over but will not start. i

check for spark and gas by trying to spray starting fluid into the intake and trying to start it. If it starts and runs for a few seconds, then it's a bad fuel delivery system or possible fuel pump.

Mitsubshi occasionally will not start

When you say won't start... will it not turn over or will it turn over but not start. If it is cranking but no start I'd say the ECU is beginning to fail (very common in early 90's Mitsubishi's) If need be there is a way you can check the ECU for codes with a standard analog multimeter. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Tom

Where do I find the air filter on my 1999 Montero Sport?

It's probably not your air filter, but that is located at the end of the big hose on the right side under the hood, it looks like a big box. It sounds like it might be the idling sensor.
