Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I had a fuel pump put on two days after my engine light is on. Got diagnostic test done was told its fume vapors.triggering engine . What is this is it do to new fuel pump not placed on properly

If the fuel system isnt sealed or has a leak the check eng light will come on, so lets say they forgot to connect a line from tank to evap canister this would cause check engine light to come on, this happens no big thing as long as they repaired it at no charge. and the answer to your question is yes it can be because they didnt do the job correctly.

Evap emmission,control sys leak


Do not top off your gas tank. The gas is going into carbon canister which is only for fuel vapors to go into (carbon canister opening near the top of fuel neck near the gas cap). Your flooding the fuel vapor canister with liquid fuel; of course you are going to get a sensor message... 'Evap emmission,control sys leak

P0443 The fuel vapor canister reduces that gas smell on hot days outside/inside of car. The fuel vapor canister fillers bad smells from gas tank on hot days when the gas expands and burps fumes through carbon canister filter. From the canister (gas vapor fumes) goes back into the engine to be burned again...it's a closed loop for vapors to be recycled though engine. Don't worry, once the carbon canister dries out and no longer flooded with raw fuel the code should go away...just don't let the top off fuel tank back flow into the 'Evap emission control' carbon filter near the top and close to the gas cap...:)

Well it could be numerous if things but you want suggestions...So here's mine..Your gas tank might be vapor locked...This is caused from over filling your gas tank with gas over the years..Its when the pressure in your gas tank becomes greater than your fuel pump. It wont start until the pressure in your gas tank becomes lower then you fuel pump...Sounds crazy...This got me once...I didn't understand it...A lot of people (including me) Go to the gas station and get that extra 50 cent after the gas nozzle clicks off...over time that extra gas will run down the vapor lines intended to burn fumes....Like when you fill a gas can to cut your grass...If you sake the gas can it builds pressure and bows up. But with time that pressure will go away...Well saying that...Your gas tank needs to vent to....So your car burns not only gas but fumes...If you keep over filling your car with the extra gas it cloggs up your vapor canister intended for fumes or vapors...The gas will will go into that canister and clogg up the charcoal that's inside it. (Breaks it down) then the vapors can't get to your carburetor where it supposed to burns it. So what happens is the pressure in the gas tank becomes greater than your fuel pump and then car won't start..Are you with me? Lol Its crazy..Putting a different gas cap can cause the same thing...Simple test...When you open your gas cap to get gas.. Do you heat air sucking in.. Yes you can hear it....A lot of times loosening the cap let's the pressure out and the car will start right up.....Thus might not be your problem but worth telling at the gas pumps to other people..... Just trying to help

How do I put inline fuel pump in silverado 2500


What's the fuel pressure ? Hook up a fuel pressure gauge an test it yourself . fuel regulator ??? It's a fuel pressure regulator . I was starting rough and I had a diagnostic done. "They" said it was the fuel regulator.
Hard starting - not starting rough . What year is the truck , what engine does it have . If they don't know for sure what's wrong you better try another repair shop that know's how to diagnose .
Electrical problems can lead one to believe the fuel pump is bad . Doing voltage drop testing on the electrical circuit is a very good test.

Gas pump shuts off while filling tank constantly


like answer number 2 up there, California has a Fume Collector over the nozzle, and extends over the hose itself.... its really important NOT to "top it off" after the nozzle shuts off automatically.... it has a tendancy to fill up that vapor space with gas, and you can try to put gas in your car, but it stops each time you pull the "trigger" on the handle (acts like the tank is full) The service station person needs to come out and drain out the excess gas from the hose vapor space. (they are quite familiar with this.... it happens a lot)

Service engine light is on....had checked and I'm told that I need to have my Fuel pressure sensor checked or changed...how can I be sure???


What was the fault code that triggered the engine light? The fuel pressure sensor on the Escalade monitors vapor pressure within the fuel tank to determine whether a leak has occurred and sends the information to the EVAP system to recirculate the fuel vapor.

I have 2000 ford contour my engine light came on i took my car and got a reading which said failed canister vent solenoid. what does that mean. Is it serious


The solenoid is for an emissions device called an evaporative loss canister. It would probably not affect how the engine performs but it would have to be replaced to pass a smog test.

possible fuel sending unit for the gauge check engine light try putting on a new gas cap.. sounds funny but if its the original and its bad it will trigger the check engine light wow i cant believe they told u to use a differnt gas b/s hope i helped good luck

The evaporative control (EVAP) system captures any raw fuel evaporating from the fuel storage system (e.g. the fuel tank, filler neck, and fuel cap). Under precise operating conditions-dictated by engine temperature, speed, and load-the EVAP system stores and purges these captured fuel vapors back into the combustion process.

The EVAP system is designed not only to capture, store, and purge any raw fuel vapors that leak from areas in the Fuel Storage system, but also to run a series of self-tests that confirm or deny the operational and vapor holding ability of the system. This is an important task because at least 20 percent of vehicle-produced air pollution originates from malfunctioning Vehicle Fuel Storage systems.
There are many ways to "leak test" the EVAP system, but most perform the leak test when the vehicle is sitting (like over night) or during the initial start-up after the vehicle has been sitting over night. The EVAP system's operational performance is also tracked by the Power Train Computer by reading the change in the oxygen sensor voltages and short term fuel trim whenever the stored vapors are released or "purged" back into the combustion process. These values should indicate that fuel is being added to the system and that the overall mixture is getting richer. The purging process occurs when the vehicle is under acceleration, which is when most vehicles require additional fuel.

P0442 Diagnostic Theory for Shops and Technicians
The P0442 code indicates that there is a small leak in the EVAP system, but this is somewhat misleading. What the code really indicates is that the EVAP system will not hold a specified level of vacuum for a specified amount of time when it performs its leak test.
Here is how the evaporative leak test is performed by the Power Train Computer:
  1. When the leak test is performed, the vehicle must have been sitting for at least four to eight hours so that the engine temperature and outside air temperature are identical. There must also be between 15 and 85 percent fuel in the tank-this is to provide a baseline for the test since gasoline and diesel are volatile fluids that expand and vaporize easily with warm temperatures.
  2. When the leak test initiates, the Vapor Canister Vent Valve is closed to prevent any fresh air from entering the EVAP system. The Purge Valve is also sealed off.
  3. The Leak Detection Pump operates to build a vacuum in the entire Evaporative System (see the Leak Detection Pump information below). After a specified time interval-usually about ten seconds-the Purge Valve is shut off and the vacuum level in the system is measured by the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.
  4. Finally, a countdown initiates, which measures the rate at which the vacuum decays in the system. If the vacuum decays faster than the specified rate on two successive tests, then the Power Train Computer will fail the EVAP system and trigger the P0442 code. Most modern EVAP systems will fail the leak test with a pin-sized hole anywhere in the EVAP system, which amounts to 0.020 of an inch or a ½ millimeter.

Fuel Odor on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee


The evap system ( fuel vapor recovery system ) , if there is a leaky hose, can let fumes out that can be detected in the cab. If you "top off" the fuel at the pump you can spill fuel into the charcoal canister meant for fuel vapors only. the vapor recovery system is behind the left rear tire.

Usually if there is a hose leak a check engine light will come on.

If you TOP OFF, don't. If you don't, good. Hope this helps.
