Follow the top radiator hose fron radiator to engine, there at end of the hose is the thermostat housing. remove hose from engine side, also remove the 2 bolts from housing to reveal the thermostat. remember which way the thermostats positioned in the housing. replace with your new one and also new gasket. reinstall your hose and you should be good to go.be prepared to lose some fluid when you remove the top radiator hose. i've always found that a little rtv glue'''blue glue''' will hold the gasket in place while you're replacing you thermostat. hope this helps!!

SOURCE: thermostat

Usually the replacement thermostat.

Some sockets in the rights size to remove the thermostat from the car should be on one of the big hoses going into the engine. Some come with gaskets some don't need them. You usually get one with the thermostat when you purchase it from the store. Usually a very cheap part. 15 -20 dollars max.

1990 ford festiva stalls out when it snows.

Well did you use 10w - 30 if so then switch to the 5w-30 the reason the car needs a lighter oil in the cold weather. i usually use 10w during the summer helps keep the engine a little cooler on longer runs but during the winter u need the lighter oil so it don't have to work so hard to keep going.
