Engine light means, computer pick up a bad signal from one of your engine sensor, have a code reading done, most auto parts or autozone will do this for free, and get back with us with the code number, so we can help you diag. your trouble code, hope this was very helpful.

You could have serious trouble with the engine losing that much anti-freeze. If it is not leaking out somewhere onto the ground, it may be from a bad head gasket that is letting coolant burn in the cylinders (you would see white smoke out the exhaust), or it may let the coolant get mixed into the oil in the lower engine's crankcase.
Pull the oil dipstick and look at it. If the level is way high, or if the oil color is milky brown looking, then you have water (anti-freeze) in the oil-a bad head gasket, and a big expense to fix it. That would explain the rattling: water in the oil stops the oil from lubricating properly, and the engine bearings and other moving parts inside the engine can be damaged. If this is the case, and the reason for the rattling, then the engine is shot and needs a total overhaul, or you need a different engine.
If the coolant was leaking outside, post back. Has the engine ever overheated from low coolant? The rattling is worrisome-have a mechanic listen to it if you get it started. If it won't crank over, have someone see if the engine can be turned by hand-if it still turns freely (not siezed up), then the starting circuit needs to be checked for why the starter won't work. Good luck. Check the oil first thing.

Blowing white smoke

white smoke is caused by-- water or anti-freeze entering cylinder . if in radiator or the overflow tank. it will look like a chocolate milk shake. check on oil dipstick for traces of water or anti-freeze. also, a bad head gasket will let water or anti-freeze in combustion area. head gasket symtoms if bad. Symptom #1: Chronic Engine Overheating
Symptom #2: Significant Drop in Coolant Level Symptom #3: Mixing of Coolant and Engine Oil
Symptom #4: White Smoke from Exhaust Pipe

popping of overflow cap Symptom #6: Air Bubbles in Radiator

I have a 99 mercury cougar, I am not getting any heat and the oil guage is reading in the red zone

Check that you have the full amount of anti-freeze in the expansion tank AND that it tests to -34 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.Weak anti-freeze allows boilover and then your heater won't work when level is low or it air locks.ALSO,your thermostat can be stuck shut and that will cause the above problem of boilover.
This boilover can break down your oil by the engine overheating. So check your oil level and change your filter. don-ohio

Tempature light on H and engine runs HOT and leaking Anti-Freeze underneath. oil light comes on, oil level is full

fix anti freeze leak, the oil sending unit is probably gotten wet and sending a ground reading which causes a false reading or light.

Check engine light is on and my car is constantly "jumping" what may be the problem?

Check the level in your overflow tank for anti-freeze make sure it is at the appropriate level. Sometimes when the level is lower it will trigger the check engine light. Once the sensor is trigger it will trigger other components of the vehicle. If it is low, just add a little anti-freeze and water to the appropriate level.

The coolant sensor light is on

The coolant sensor liight come on when the Anti-freeze get low. Just top off the ant-freeze and the light will go out. It is norrmal for anti-freeze level to go down but slow. Toping off once or twice a year is ok but anymore then that you really should check for leaks. Low anti-freeze will cause over heating. Over heating can wreak an engine.

Accidentally added antifreeze to oil instead of

since it was such a small amount of anti freeze and water, anti freeze has a petrolem base and water would have sunk to the bottom of oil pan, change oil and filter and you should be ok

Loses power and dies

this is a tricky one. I would check the oil level and then the anti freeze. it sounds like the engine is over heating and the wrong oil will do that. but is can also be the anti freeze because their are little flow ports through out the engine and it can be that the ports in the engine are clogged with grim. if the ports are clogged then thiers no way for the engine to cool. and i do beleive that thier is a sensor in the engine that cuts the engine off when its is not recieving any anti freeze.
