This year and make car came with 4 diffrent engines, the way to know which engine you have is to locate the decal under the hood or the easy way for you is get your vin# (id #) this number is on your reg, your insurance card and your title, if you look at that number and count from left to right to the 8th digit, this letter will tell you your engine size, here are the definitions for the digit, if the 8th digit is a X = 2.4 eng with DOHC (DOHC = dual overhead cams).
if its a G = 2.4 eng with SOHC (SOHC = single overhead cam)
if it a R or T = 2.7 engine
if its a H = 3.0 engine. this is easy with the vin #. remember count to the 8 th digit from left to right. For example 548gk36r t698 if this was your vin the 8th digit would be a R, so you would tell the parts place you have a 2.7 engine. hope this helps.

Tip

Need to know year or engine size?

Open the hood and look up.
You should see this little sticker under there on the bottom of the hood itself.

Here you can see the production year, engine size and more.

Giving us this information helps us to help you.

So rather than saying "Where is the coil on my chevy", You can add in some more information as some parts have different locations depending on the year and engine size.

So with this little sticker, you can now ask, "Where is the coil on my 1999 Chevy silverado. Engine size 5.0L"
This will help us get you the correct answers much faster. write_tip-lqtk4cigug3lac1fp4iuuiog-2-2.jpg

Need to know size of engine to change the thermstat

Under the hood itself, there should be a sticker. It should be info on Emission standards for the car.
The Emission sticker should list the engine displacement for size. For an example, 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L.
Some auto-part store can look up the correct thermostat by the VIN number on the car.
