Question about 2002 Saturn L-Series

1 Answer

I have a 2003 L200 sedan. I took my car to one mechanic to have the rear brakes fix. He only put on the brake shoes. When I got my car back, the brakes were very low and soft. I took it to another mechanic who said they missed parts and the drums had to be replace. Do I have drum or disc brakes? When I got my car back, the brakes were perfect. I just want to make sure I wasn't charge for something I don't have.

Breaks wont come on in lincoln

Take it back to the mechanic and tell them to check for a loose connection. They probably left the ABS or some other sensor unplugged.

I left my car (Mercedes C180 auto 1994) with a mechanic to replace the back and front brakes. In the process, the mechanic said he had to replace the calipers on the brakes. When I drove the car home and...

I would say one of two things happened. first maybe the parking brake shoes need adjustment. the most common that i see all the time even with newwer cars and trucks, the rear brakes are set up two ways, the type your car uses is the disc rear brakes used to stop the car and then for the parking brake it uses shoes inside the rear of the brake rotor, inside the rotor it gets very rusty and the shoes tend to rust awat from the metal mounting braket it comes on. i see this all the time, when you go to remove the rotor as you slide the rotor off the shoes fall apart and can not go back on, as along as the rotor is not removed it will stay in place, this problem would of occured anyway it would of taken a while longer and then you would of heard noise from rear wheels but it happened sooner due to removing the rotors, its not there fault but they should of called you and told you that you would need parking brake shoes but thought that you may not use the parking brake which is a bad thought in there part. maybe its just an adjustment that need to be made to the parking brake. heres a picture of the rear shoes to show you the metal bracket the shoes come apart from. another thing is that if the rotors were replaced then that explains it more as the old rotors contain rust and build up and that helped make the parking hold bettter.lets hope it just an adjustment.johnjohn2_137.gif

How can I get the springs back on rear brake pads on 1999 suburban? I took the brakes off and now I am having problems putting the springs back on. Any solutions on how to make this a little easier?

there is no springs on brake pads,
if you mean rear drum ,brake shoes, which springs are you having trouble with, the round cylinder springs that hold the shoes fast to the backing plate or the the return springs that bring the shoes back after being pushed out by wheel cylinders.

My right rear brakes squeak due to the hand brake

Getting the levers loose is a start but the shoes may have gotten hot and "glazed". Have him replace the shoes, use a good quality name brand and not the cheapest you can find shoes, and it should be OK.

Very poor brake performance after changing rear shoes

It sounds like your self-adjusters are not assembled correctly allowing them to back off when braking.

What is a backing pedal on a 2001 Saturn L200

The rear brake shoes etc., are mounted to the backing plate. If it's rusted or damaged, it will need to be replaced in order for the brakes to work properly & safely.

Rear brake shoes

Had the same problem and had to pull spring back, using two vise grips in order to do it. Then the brake cable will slip into place if you move the lever until the cable goes into the open part of the attachment on the bottom of the lever. Then turn or twist the brake shoe until the cable end fits properly.
Make sure to examine and think about which way to insert the cable end so that it is in properly to pull the lever.
