Question about 2003 GMC Sierra 1500
The CEL comes on when there are error codes stored in the ECU (main car computer module) memory.
In US you can have a free code scan at the nearest Autozone, or you can have the scan done for half hour service fee at any garage or authorized dealer (to avoid disappointment ask first).
The mechanic will connect a diagnostic tool (OBDII code reader) to the port hidden under the dash.
