I need to know what is wrong with my dodge ram 1500 . When I brake the truck squeals and its not my brake pads cause they look like new .


Did you install Dodge Replacement pads or aftermarket? With the size of the rotors and pads on your Ram it is not uncommon for aftermarket pads to have squeal. Did you install and use the anti-squeal material that should have come with the pads?

How to install break pads


Front aren't to bad just remove tire.Caliper holds pads, there are to bolts to be removed they may be allen wrench type from back to front One on the top one on bottom of caliper. After removing and a small amount of wiggling should allow you to tip the caliper back away from rotor and allow you to unsnap pads from caliper. Next you need a large C-clamp you use this to slowly push cylinder back into caliper, The cylinder has to go all the way back in or after you install new pads you wont be able to get them back down over rotor.Once you have pads set in caliper replace caliper over rotor and replace bolts in caliper pads are changed. BUT before taking off with vehical drive back and forth to ensure the brake pads properly set up and that you have brakes before taking off down the road.ONE other thing you may encounter,after removing bolts to take caliper off there are to spacers that slide with bolts as brakes wear.These to spacers have to be pushed into the caliper to allow you to be able to get the calipers properly seated on rotor. These spacers are seated in rubber and sometimes you have to drive them back in, be careful with the brake line so you don't break it while changing brakes it does Not have to be taken off to change the pads.Good luck let me know how it goes.

Steps to rear brake replacment


  1. Park the Dodge on a flat, level surface and engage the parking brake. Put two wedges of wood in front of your front wheels and two behind them.
  2. Put the jack under the back frame of the car and lift it up until the wheels are off the ground. Slide the two jack stands underneath the car right under the axles, one next to each wheel. Use the jack to lower the car onto the two jack stands.
  3. Loosen the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench, and remove the lug nuts and the two back wheels.
  4. Look for two bolts that are attached to the caliper. Remove them with the adjustable wrench. Lift up the caliper and set it on the axle, taking care not to let it fall and break.
  5. Compress the brake pads which, in turn, will compress the underlying piston. If they won't budge, use a C-clamp to compress them.
  6. Open the spring clips by prying with a screwdriver and take off the pads. And if the pads are stuck you can pry them off with the screwdriver as well.
  7. Rub a little bit of silicone grease onto the back of each new pad and put the pads in the correct position. Put the spring clips back in place to hold the pads in place.
  8. Put the caliper back in place and tighten the bolts.
  9. Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts. Lift up the car a little with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the Dodge all the way to the ground. Retighten the lug nuts.
  10. Lift up the hood and look for the master cylinder's brake fluid container on the driver's side of the car, closest to the driver. Top off the brake fluid, if needed.
You will need the following
  • 4 wood wedges
  • Lug wrench
  • Floor jack
  • 2 jack stands
  • Adjustable wrench
  • C-clamp (optional)
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • New brake pads
  • Silicone grease

Cant get brakes back on my 1992 gmc jimmy I cant get them to line up and go on the rotor


More than likely you have not fully compressed the caliper piston into the caliper. Take the old inner brake pad and clip it on back onto the piston. With a large clamp (one side on the back of the caliper behind the piston and the other on the face of the old brake pad) and compress the piton slowly by tightening the clamp. It needs to bottom out completely. Remove the clamp and old brake pad and install the new pads. Make sure that when you install the caliper to the rotor that the brake pads stay locked in position and it will slide over the rotors and fit snug.

How do I replace the front brake pads on my 2009 Mazda 6 2 litre? Can I do it myself?


Step 1 Park the Mazda 6 on a flat surface. Put the emergency brake on and put wedges behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Using a syringe, turkey baster or similar tool, drain two thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder. Remove the wheel.
  • Step 2 Remove the bolts attached to the brake pipe. Remove the bolt cap attached to the caliper top. Swing the caliper, pivoting it downwards. Suspend the caliper from the frame using mechanics wire. Remove the M-springs, the pads and the shims.
  • Step 3 Press the caliper pistons back into the cylinders. Install the brake pads. Lubricate the exterior of the pads using anti-squeal. Install the shims. Install the M-Springs. Reinstall the caliper. Using a torque wrench torque the bolt to 36 to 39-ft. lbs. Install the cap.
  • Step 4 Reinstall the wheels. Add brake fluid to the master cylinder. Bleed the brakes. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Start the engine and pump the brakes 3 to 4 times to seat the brake pads. Test drive the Mazda 6 at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.I hope this helps you and please have a merry xmas

    How to change rear brake pads on my 1992 mr2 gt


    Parts needed...
    Metric socket set.
    Large standard screwdriver and or small pry bar
    never-seize lubricant
    new brake pads
    12" channel lock pliers or a caliper piston turning cube http://www.google.com/base/a/3862711/D14736274280982705237
    Dead blow hammer
    Synthetic brake grease
    Aerasol brake cleaner
    Rubber gloves / safety glasses / facemask
    remove the 14mm bolt from the lower caliper slide.
    If the bolt will not turn with moderate force applied STOP! and take it to a garage to be dealt with as you are not equipped to remove a broken bolt. Heat will be required to remove it that only an oxy / acetylene rig can provide. 
    if the bolt comes free proceed as follows. 
    Remove bolt 
    Insert prying tool between lower lip of caliper and rotor. 
    Pry the caliper up. It will  pivot on the other caliper slide and swing upwards allowing you to access the brake pads in the caliper mount. 
    Remove the old pads one at a time by prying them away from the rotor face with a prying tool. 
    Match each pad as it is removed with its corresponding replacement and insert. The pads are seated in metal clips and may require multiple attempts and mild force to install. You can use the handle of you hammer to tap them into place. 
    Once the pads are installed you can continue with retracting the piston on the calipers. 
    Using the piston cube or the pliers, rotate the caliper piston clockwise to retract it into the caliper again. This will take a while especially if you have pliers to work with. If the piston refuses to turn you will need to replace the caliper. This is best left to a garage that is familiar with bleeding ABS systems. Reinstall the old pads and  the caliper and take it to a service center.
    Once the piston is retracted into the caliper you can remove the caliper from its guide pin. 
    Slide the caliper away from you to remove it from the upper guide pin. 
    lubricate the pin with synthetic grease and reinstall the caliper on the guide pin sliding it towards you as far as it will go to re-seat the rubber dust boot. 
    Then rotate the caliper down over the new pads. 
    Apply never-seize to the threads of the bolt and reinstall it. 
    Apply moderate force when installing as excessive force will snap the bolt. 
    Once finished clean the entire assembly with brake clean to remove any grease or dust that may have accumulated.

    Front brake pad exchange guide.

    Step1 Park the Dodge Durango on a flat surface. Put the emergency brake on and put wedges behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Drain 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder, using a syringe. Remove the wheel and the tire assemblies. Step2 Compress the caliper piston back into the caliper bore using a large C-clamp to drive the piston into the bore. Use additional force if it is required. Using a 3/8 inch hex wrench or socket remove the caliper mounting bolts. Step3 Rotate the caliper rearward off the rotor and out from its mount. Remove the inboard and outboard brake pads. Remove the spring clip that holds the inboard brakes in the caliper. Tilt the pad out at the top to unseat the clip. Remove the retaining spring that secures it in the caliper. Unseat one spring end and rotate the pad out of the caliper. Step4 Suspend the caliper assembly from the Durango frame using mechanic's wire. Do not allow the caliper assembly to dangle from the brake hose as this may damage the brake hose. Step5 Clean the surfaces of the caliper and steering knuckle with a wire brush. Apply multi-mileage grease or similar product. Using brake fluid or break cleaner clean the caliper slide pins. Apply a light coating of silicone grease to the pins. Step6 Install the inboard brake pad and it's spring. Install the outboard brake pad. Install the caliper over the rotor and seat it in its original position until it is flush. Using a torque wrench, torque the slide caliper pins to 22 ft./lbs. Step7 Add brake fluid to the master cylinder. Bleed the brakes. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Start the engine and pump the brakes 3-4 times to seat the brake pads. Reinstall the wheels. Test drive the Durango at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.
    Rear brake pad exchange.

    Step1 Lift the Durango off the ground with a car jack. Support the vehicle on all sides with jack stands. Keep children and small animals out of the vicinity when you replace the brakes. Step2 Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels with a torque wrench. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies and set them aside, face up, to prevent damage. Step3 Compress the caliper and remove it by lifting the top up and off the caliper adapter. Hang the caliper from the Durango's frame with mechanical wire. Step4 Remove the inboard and outboard brake shoes from the caliper adapter. Take off the top and bottom anti-rattle springs. Keep the springs separated, as they aren't interchangeable. Step5 Press the piston into the bore with a C-clamp. To prevent damage to the pistons, insert an old brake shoe in between the C-clamp and caliper piston. Remove the C-clamp. Step6 Wipe down the caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle springs with brake cleaner. Grease the anti-rattle springs with brake grease. Install the bottom anti-rattle springs, followed by the top anti-rattle springs. Step7 Install the inboard brake shoes followed by the outboard brake shoes. Replace the caliper and the wheel and tire assemblies. Lower the vehicle to the ground and pump the brakes to seat the pistons.

    Brake pads worn, making audible noise.


    No but you need someone that can do a COMPLETE brake job. This means the rotors should be turned or machined to take out warps. You will hear all kinds of suggestions as to brake pads but I use a non-JAG pad but not ceramic. While ceramics have better stopping power they will also warp the disk faster and so you will not have as long lasting brake job
